| My puppy hates her leash/dander issues Hi Everyone!!!
My puppy Domina is for the most part doing great! It's been about 2 weeks since we've got her, and she's doing great with her potty training, she has some nibbling action going on, but we always try to redirect with a toy. She's just so smart and such a joy. We took her to the vet today to get her shot, and the vet said that she looks great, and that she's not underweight anymore ( she's 9 weeks and 15lbs now - vet said that she was a bit underweight when we took her for her check-up after we got her ).
The only two problems we're having are: walking on a leash, and dander problems.
She does great with her collar, but she doesn't want to walk at all when we put a leash on her. She either tries to bite it, or just stands still and won't move. Is there a way to make her "like" the leash?
Also, she does have some dander issues. We use a puppy oatmeal shampoo, and we only gave her a bath once when we got her. Are there some products out there that we can use/give her, that will improve her dander situation? Thank you!
P.S. Here is Domina, asleep in her Daddy's arms. She looovvveeesss to cuddle. |

| Sometimes dander is the result of diet. You could put the leash on her and let her drag it around a bit so she gets used to it. But be careful and don't leave her unattended with the leash. |

P.S. Here is Domina, asleep in her Daddy's arms. She looovvveeesss to cuddle. | IMPO - dandruff is from cheaper kibble, lacking in 4-5 star quality. domina - what food are you using ?? And review this site: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/dry/
- once I learned the importance of healthy diet, I don't even bath my dobes now...and dandruff/chin pimples are totally absent from my dobes life My BENCHMARK:
DOG KIBBLE DOES NOT CONTAIN: Animal By-Products, Poultry Fat, BHT, BHA, Ethoxyquin, Corn, Wheat, Soya, Sugar, Salt, Brewers Rice or Beet Pulp
- our dogs can't read labels, so owners must educate themselves - and do it for them 9 weeks old
Mine wouldn't sit on the leash - so I put it on her collar for 1/2 hour/day and she got to drag it around the house...so not considered foreign any more.
- when my puppy wanted to mouth her leash, she heard a stern "ENOUGH-ITCH"
(quickly / problem solved)
Domina is a sweety - I love her cute photo, in proud Dad arms...thks. for sharing (more to come, I hope)...hint/hint.

| What a sweet looking puppy! Congratulations! I've had my girl for 4 weeks now, so I'm about 2 weeks ahead of you. I too had the same problem with the leash. The advice I was given was to let her walk around in the house with the leash trailing around with her so that she gets use to it. I then started using a treat she really loves and holding it in front of her to get her to come. We would take a few steps with her leash loose but in my hand and when she came, I gave her the treat and lots of praise. It didn't take long for her to get the hang of it. She would still at times get stubborn and not move and she too bit and pulled on the leash. Now we can go for walks and she trots along without much trouble. She will at times get distracted on our walks and plant her big puppy feet, but I redirect her with the "come" command and treat her and she is doing so much better. The first week was the hardest and I was at wits end, but I would say she is 90% better. I don't know the answer to your dander issue, but I'm sure there is someone that can give you advice. Good luck with your sweet baby! She is precious. I love her name by the way. |

| I would just add to this if the regular leash is still too much for her, you can use a long shoe string or something lighter at first to get her used to it. Then move up to the leash.
make sure when you bathe to only rub the direction of the coat. Bathe with tepid (not warm water) and don't over bathe. That might help with dander.

- our dogs can't read labels, so owners must be educated enough - to do it for them | this isn't always the case. we had Deck on Blue Wilderness and he had ridiculous dandruff. had him on ToTW, dandruff. he started to refuse kibble after that, so we never got a chance to test anything else. |

| Beaumont67,
She's on Hill's Science Diet for puppies. I am now aware that that food isn't the best, and will switch her to one of the 4-5 star foods as soon as she runs out of this food ( doesn't have long to go ). |

| Gracie gets dander when nervous or everytime we take a ride to vet. She is on Innova puppy. Our home is somewhat dry running around 40% humidity in winter.
The leash issue was tested here. We have since picked up a harness vs using the collar, let the pup lead you and dont expect her to catch on super quick. Dont jerk the leash.
Try this a few times, we have used ours in the home and doing much better as we go out. Then try the collar to see how she accepts it.
Good luck |

Whole grain corn,
chicken by-product meal,
corn gluten meal, animal fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), dried beet pulp,
chicken liver flavor, brewers rice,
dicalcium phosphate,
lactic acid,
fish oil,
flaxseed, soybean oil, ^^^^ 2.5 star kibble shows many-many red flags // thanks for understanding.
This lack of quality, is just big business for profit...getting rid of waste, from the human food chain.
- I know...been there, done it / feeding daily poison to my 1977 puppy, that died full of cancer.
But, I learned / expensive vet bills, don't make up for poor food (throughout dogs life)...back then, I sadly took the advise of my breeder.
Now - this is my kibble of choice, and I only use "all-life-stages" (ALS), don't even buy puppy food: http://www.holisticblend.com/en/food...olistic-blend/

The lady at the pet store told me that k9 Show Stopper is good for their coats, does anyone have any experience with it? They had a 1lb can there. I found a 7lb can on amazon, but since it's a bit pricey, I wanted to ask you guys, and see if you recommend it. |

| I would wait to see if the food change helps first. I don't use supplements unless absolutely needed. I would rather feed a food that works best for the dog and not use them if possible.

| Just an FYI - Milk Bone treats for example lists the meat source as "meat & bone meal".
By definition this is from dead stock rendering plants / bad treats won't help dandruff be eliminated either.
- I use Organix PeaNut Butter, 100% organic certified
