| New puppy dislikes my dobe We got a new puppy yesterday, a min pin lab mix. My dobe keeps trying to play with him but he barks and snaps at her. Do I give it time, or find the pup a new home? Is it too soon to say they aren't compatible? Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

| I would imagine that the puppy has a lot going on with settling into a new home and a new family and a new routine. I honestly would have waited a few days to introduce the dogs so that the pup could have felt more comfortable in the home first.
Give it some time and make introductions positive.

Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App | I'm no expert by any means, but it took a few days for both of our pups to adjust to each other, and if I'm not mistaken (I could very well be wrong) I thought min pins were some what territorial... or it could be that the new puppy is just scared? Just an idea... like I said I could be wrong. Just a couple ideas. |

| consider the size difference, as well. you bring this TINY puppy into a house with a giant beast that (it probably thinks) wants to eat it. you'd be snappy, too!
introductions should be slow. maybe you should separate them for now, until you're able to introduce them properly. |

| I have a dachshund considered a tweenie size not a miniature but not a standard either she weighs about 14# Patches. Then 4 months after I got patches I got Buddy a black & rust Doberman both were 16 week s old when i got them. I had to keep them apart when i was not watching them Doberman s are the roughest playing pup I have ever had. Your pup is most likely scared that your Dobe is going to harm her. Are they both males ? if they are you may want to re-home the pup before you are too in love with it to part with it. Doberman s have same sex aggression. I used a long line on Buddy so I had control over him when he played with Patches also Patches would go under the couch if Buddy got too rough with her. Was very funny to see a big Dobe butt in the air he had his head under looking under the couch trying to get Patches to come back out to play. Some time Patches would come back out sometimes not she had full advantage of shelter from him. You have to protect the pup also it is best not to leave them alone together not unless crated due to the difference in size Buddy weighs 93#. Good Luck. |

| When I brought Vader home my pit mix really wanted to play with him but since she was so much bigger he was really scared. The third day we had him he finally started to play with her but you could tell he was still scared and mistrusting. He would come running back to us tripping over his huge paws lol! It takes time. They will be best friends I'm sure. Just monitor their play sessions early and stop anything that may overwhelm the new puppy. It will help the pup to know that their owner is in charge of all the situations. Good luck! |

| One day is not enough time to judge whether its going to work out or not. Proper introductions and adjustments take time.
Create positive associations by using toys or treats, and end interaction on a good note. Don't wait until something negative happens before stepping in. Watch body language and take things slow. Good luck!

| You must keep the dobe away from the puppy. I had to with my new puppy and the dobe. My doberman loved the puppy but play WAY WAY WAY too rough. They are good friends now, pup is 7 months but even now I don't let them roughhouse outside without me there because the doberman just plays too hard. Your job is to protect the new puppy and let them slowly get introduced. Have the pup on your lap and tell your doberman to down, make him stay while puppy sniffs. I don't see a min pin/lab mix either. |

Structurally, this simply wouldn't happen. This just doesn't fit in that... |

| I hope they just had a really small doberman they where calling a min pin- a male lab is large, they also have large puppies. It would have ripped the female.... I have a min pin and our lab puppies are the same size as her when they come out pretty much Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

As a vet tech I can tell you that we see that all the time...people who think their dogs are crosses between a small breed and a large breed. The people who "breed" these dogs just make it up. It's pretty common, and unfortunately for the buyer, not true.
A lab and a min pin would not "fit" to begin with (even if mom was the size of a mini schnauzer, thats still a large size difference). Not to mention the mother would not have been able to carry and deliver puppies that large. I am a lab girl prior to getting into dobes, showing and working closely with a mentor (and co-owning one of his studs). We also had a client at my practice who bred min pins...I'm rambling but there is a massive size difference in these breeds not only as adults but as newborn puppies. These 2 breeds just wouldn't work to reproduce. We had a client who was convinced his dog was a Pomeranian crossed with a GSD...it was actually most likely a chow/GSD cross...
One other thing I've found is pretty common in my time as a tech, is to call any unknown cross a "lab cross" or "this breed" crossed with a lab. Lab seems to be the fallback when the the cross is actually unknown. |

I second this... being a vet tech myself. So many rescued breeds or mutts are being labeled as labs and lab mixes. Most of the time they are shepherd mixes mixed with something else. Think about it. Most shepherd mixes possess those coloration too with longer hair.
Can we have a picture?

| Well we ended up giving the puppy back to the breeder. He showed signs of aggression and we decided he wasn't a good fit for us. I'd be happy to post a pic but I can't find a way to from my phone. He was pure black with floppy ears Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |
