| | Alpha | Use kong style toys, hide yummy treats in them and play "hide & seek" around the house. The sniffing/searching will use up quite a bit of energy. We also play fetch games in our livingroom, and short games of tug.
Like most Dobes, our puppy also seems to think he will melt in the rain |

I will also use the flirt pole a bit in our family room (it's quite large and open, some people may not have them room for it, but it works here) to burn some steam off him when it's crappy out. |

| | Alpha | I love the rain. Throughout my girl's life I always just put a raincoat on her and went out with her and acted like nothing was odd. As long as I was running around and playing or throwing a ball around, she would stay out in the rain without a problem. Now, if I opened the door to the yard, and let her out in the rain alone, she did appear to be melting.
If you haven't already, you could try a raincoat outside for Mayhem. It did seem to lower the melting threshhold for my pup. |

| I don a raincoat and walk in the rain. Around here there's no doggy raincoats in stores big enough to fit anything but a toy breed (Mocha melts), so if the rain is too cold for dogs I find one of our childhood raincoats and stick it on them. Works in a pinch even if they look ridiculous. Mocha still will not potty in the rain but at least she doesn't look completely miserable on a walk.

| Elza, even just drizzling, hates raining. On rainy day, she's just quiet and spends her day almost sleeping literally!
I think rope toy or kong will work for your dog. Rainy day will be a good training day

| I don't have one, but I've seen Chilly Dog raincoats on dobes & they look great.
I agree about being with your dog. As long as Chanel has a coat on & is with me, she'll walk happily (or chase her ball) in the rain.

| | Big Dog | I wish rainy days were a problem, instead we have "it's obnoxiously hot" days. If you have stairs that's always a GREAT way to burn the energy. We've created a game for our guy when it's too hot to do anything in the summer where I'll stand at the bottom of the stairs (it's a straight case, not curved or with a landing) and I'll tell him:
"All the way up"
*he runs to the top and looks at me stoked as can be*
then "All the way down"
*he runs to the bottom and stares at me waiting to do it again*
We'll do that for a solid fifteen minutes every now and then and he's set to go |

| Raincoats here, too.
Inside, there are toys that do not come out unless it is raining; Mr. Bill (with supervision; I'm pretty sure his "Oh, nooooo" box would be a huge vet bill; stuffies that squeak, and holey rollers for indoor "ball" play.
All of these "rainy day only" toys are in a muck bucket, and I let them dig in it to get them out.
I also have bubbles; kids' bubbles, which they love to jump about and "catch".
Gracie will play ice cube hockey. Diva is not interested.
I need to visit a thrift shop and see if I can land some fabric items for them to play tug with. They'll play tug with each other, but whatever they use for the game is trash afterward. Even if you only have one dog, you can play tug with them. With two, if we are tugging with them, the other dog has to be restrained or occupied by another human.
Antlers, bully sticks. Rainy days are definitely extra chewy days.

| Its water falling from the sky........get out there!
Caes always looks at me like "what? its raining" i walk out the door and he doesnt want to, i walk to the end of the front garden and he is outside suddenly!
Rain isnt some mythical killer, get a towel ready by the door! after the dog has been in the rain for about 20 seconds if its on the lead it should follow, what happens if it rains for a week? you not going to walk the dog? |
