| Poor Bruce So we're off to the vet in 20 mins...Bruce woke up this morning just "off", he turned his nose up at breakfast and then when we came in from going pee he threw up a handful of times (foamy bile). His tummy has been awfully gurgly also. Only one poop so far today and it was mostly normal, followed at the end by some soft/liquid.
He seems to have mostly resumed normal activity, and hasn't vomited in a few hours but I don't want to ignore anything (and 1 30 was the fastest they could get him in).
I don't think it's it's a foreign body/obstruction it doesn't present the way I normally see them. Plus, he is always with me or in his crate, the odd time he does get something he isn't allowed (a kids toy, piece of cardboard, piece of the Christmas tree...etc) I take it away immediately and give him an allowed toy. He doesn't destroy his stuffies or bedding either, so I really doubt foreign body.
He is getting his next set of shots in 2 weeks, so of course Parvo always comes to mind with puppy vomiting, but I have been insanely neurotic about him going anywhere. He hasn't met any other dogs, and has only been to our vet (in my arms), and the school once for a couple minutes literally (again in my arms).
I'm wondering if the new treats I bought him for training are the culprit as last night was the first time he had them. Hoping that's all it is but better safe than sorry. Good thing I'm no dummy to puppy/dog expenses, and what *can* happen lol.
Off to the vet now, will update when I get back. All good thoughts/prayers (whatever your thing is) for the baby would be much appreciated |

| Thank you for being the kind of person that sets up an appointment for as soon as possible and THEN comes to the forums. That doesn't seem to be logic to everybody.
Anyways, big hugs to Bruce and to you and I will be sending good vibes that it is just an "off" day.

I was just wondering why you didn't come to the forum and ask everyone here what's wrong with your dog. Then realize that you're late for your doctor appointment. Come home later today to make an appointment for your poor puppy, for the soonest date of Monday.
All jokes aside, good to see a responsible pet owner. Good lucky, Bruce! |

| hahahaha, next time I will come here in a panic first To be fair, I AM a vet tech so I knew that puppy vomiting is not something to take lightly.
So my vet thinks it's either the new training treats, or possibly the little bit of stick splinters he apparently chewed off the branch he found in the back yard (on my partners watch, he knows after that day to be more vigilant). He pooped out a little "clump" of chewed up stick while at the vet, so it could have been that. He is back to super active, and land shark-ish, and he ate, so my vet just wants me to monitor for now. No vomit since about 10 30 this morning. Fingers crossed that's all the stick he managed to actually ingest. He shredded it like crazy but I personally went out to inspect after my partner informed me, and it didn't look like he could have actually eaten much from what was shredded and what was intact.
He is trying to hump the cat as I type this, so he must be feeling somewhat better (my poor cat lets him).
By the way, you both made me LOL literally. I've noticed a # of posts like what you both described, and I just shake my head.

| Glad to hear he's ok!! Tell him he's not allowed to worry you any more Envy (Vizsla puppy) occasionally eats so fast she gets sick and I still thin OMG PARVO PARVO PANIC...then my brain cells start to function and I realize she's just eaten too fast.

You should post some celebratory pictures of him.

| I will post some pics once the kids are in bed (the next 3 hrs are chaos time in our house lol). I'm still worried there may be more pieces of stick in him, but so far still no vomit (almost 6 hrs with no vomit), and he's running around like a maniac right now. My last 2 dogs were always chewing up/carrying around sticks (I hated it, it's like they had a magic supply I couldn't find until they had chewed them up), and never had an issue, but just seeing that little clump of stick splinters be pooped out made my anxiety go crazy. I did show the poop/stick clump to his vet and she didn't seem overly worried, just said "that can't have felt good".
I will feel better once he has another poop and it's mostly normal. I love how once you become a parent (be it pets, kids or both) poop becomes an acceptable thing to discuss. |

| It is oddly calm here right now (one kid having a bath, one watching a show, and the dober shark passed out from his maniac run). So here's a few pics; one of him and the stuffed cat he molests, one of him napping while sick this morning, and one just now of him passed out after being a nutcase.
Don't mind the terrible floppy ears, I am going to start posting on Saturday. My vet confirmed that they healed up beautifully, and just to give them another day or 2 because of the one little spot that was so stubborn to heal. He has also gained 5 lbs in the last 10 days apparently lol. |

| Aww, what a cutie! I'm assuming he did the run run run PLOP for the last picture.
P.S. don't let him hump the cat. This can lead to baaad habits. |

| Glad to hear Bruce is okay. Love his name -- it always makes me smile.
P.S. We worked hard on "leave it" with respect to Jack and sticks. He would chew them and swallow little bits, then puke them up in the middle of the night so that one of us would have to get up and stagger around cleaning up his bed. Thank heaven, he's now very good about leaving sticks alone -- and we never, ever throw sticks for him (especially after a friend nearly killed his shepherd in a stick-throwing incident that went badly awry). |

The cat just doesn't tell him off about it, if I didn't correct him she wouldn't stop him at all. My last dog, I co-owned with his breeder who used him at stud, used to try to hump the cat too. It was the only thing he did try to hump, drove me nuts. I guess I have a thing for dogs who like inter species loving. |

we went thru the same thing with riko! | Thanks for the tip I've been stretching and massaging them every night when he's calm, mostly to get him used to me handling them, but also I figured it would help (or at the very least wouldn't hurt) when it came time to post.
Edit* Well "Bruce the Jerk Dog" as we lovingly call him in the evenings (his witching hour) is back in full force...and he ate all his dinner. Still no poop since the clump of stick (mostly normal poop a few hours prior to that), but since he got a late start on his meals today I am not too worried. |

They used to get so confused "isn't Molly a girl?!" In every other way Molly was the perfect dog, she just REALLY liked guests |

| Aaaand we have poop Mommy can sleep without worry tonight! He just had a rather large poop, soft yes, but completely formed and otherwise normal. Mommy was so excited that now Bruce is doing butt scooting zoomies all around the house lol. Seriously, if the neighbors were outside they would have heard the most ridiculous, excited praising about poop... |

He is such a cutie, and the way you describe him is hilarious. | Thanks He is rather hilarious, but his evening nickname (Bruce the Jerk Dog) is pretty fitting lol. Really he is just a very typical puppy in the evening, but it's been so long since I've had a puppy around that I started calling him that during his most insane moments, and it stuck lol.
He is slowly doing better about his shark tendencies, and that's really the only thing that "annoys" me. He will get it though, we are very consistent. Just when I think he is doing so good about the biting he lunges at my arm...or foot...or calf, really whatever body part might be closest. He instantly backs off like he just remembered it was bad after he does it, so I know he will get it. He just has puppy amnesia when it comes to biting I think.
I really shouldn't have gotten SO excited about his poop. I am now very ready for bed, and he is nowhere near close lol. |
