| Is my 8 week old doberman puppy underweight? Hi,
I just picked up my 8 week old female doberman puppy. She has had her first puppy shot and has had 1 deworming about a week ago. She is ribby and her hip bones stick out. She seems very small to me and only weighs 6.6lbs. Am I worrying too much or is she really small? Parents were both pretty large, dad being around 80-90 lbs. and mom being around 60-70 lbs.
Thanks for any input. |

| Six and a half pounds at 8 weeks? That sounds very underweight. Post pictures. |

| Seeing a little bit of rib is one thing (on an adult or puppy) but seeing hipbones has rarey/never been a good thing.
How much and how often are you feeding her? What food is she eating?

| Impossible to tell without seeing her. Pics? What do the breeder and your vet have to say?

| I'm not an expert on puppy weight, but Khaos weight in at nearly 20 pounds at 9 weeks. What did the vet say?

| She does sound tiny for sure. Weights will vary of course, but my boy was 15lbs at 8 weeks, and I sometimes look at him and think he could stand to gain a bit (I can see a little rib on him, but a normal amount). I would recommend a visit with your vet and let him/her know your concerns. A new puppy check up is always a good idea once you get a new dog even if they were just at the breeders vet. I took Bruce to see my vet just a couple days after bringing him home to make sure all was fine (and have always done so with my pups).
Pics would also help for us to say better. |

| She is eating Diamond puppy food and I am feeding her 2 cups spread out over 3 feedings per day. The breeder told me she was probably just wormy still and I have not taken her to my vet yet. She eats fine, plays fine, doesn't seem sick at all.
It is taking so long for the attachments to load. |

| Yikes, usually breeders worm the puppy. This is kind of scary for you. Did you get a health guarantee with the puppy? Hope all turns out ok. I would make a vet appt for very soon. |

| My boy was 17lbs at 9 weeks, so 6.6lbs seems rather tiny. The runt in his litter was very small, but still not THAT small.
My boy came home with his 1st worming done, first set of shots, ears, the works. He also has a health contract... I brought him to the vet in the first 72 hours for any immediate issues, and then there is a genetic part of the contract too...
Were the other puppies in the litter this small?

| Are you 100% sure that she is 8 weeks? From the pics it kind of looks like she is younger than that. She also does look kind of skinny and perhaps wormy. Did you check to see if she came with any health certifications? |

| She didn't come with any health certificate. I asked the breeder about it and she told me that she is so small because it was the dam's first litter and she had 10 pups. |

| I could be wrong however that pup doesn't look eight weeks old, more like six. I would recommend a visit to your vet and take a stool sample with you. |

| She was actually the largest of the litter.....
I will be taking her to my vet next week for her next dose of deworming.
And thank you. She is so sweet and smart. |

| I don't have the experience that others who have responded do, but she does look underweight to me, poor little girl
I would get her into the vet sooner rather than later. My Elka was 16 pounds at 8 weeks, and I took her to the vet within 3 days of bringing her home. |

| Bless her little heart she does look skinny, I would get her into the vet this week, just to make sure everything is ok. Cant be too careful with such young pups.
She is a very sweet looking girl, keep us updated! |

| Maybe feed her more? My pup was slightly underweight between 8-10 weeks as well when I only fed him.3 cups a day. I bought him a better food and increased feeding to 4x a day |
