i've requested no more NSAIDs for him. ever.

so, current update: he looks a lot better today than he did yesterday. he was perky(ish) and looked happy to see us. he kept looking at people, noticing people he knew (like the vet he's seen most often, the tech who loves on him every time he's there, us), and when out for a wee he actually pulled on the leash. he's getting a blood transfusion right now, as this should help a few of the problems he has at the moment.

he's not been given any food yet, and they're waiting to see if the lesions in his mouth and esophagus stop bleeding before they do. there was blood in his drool last night and his chart said he had blood dripping out of his nose this morning.

overall, though, everyone seems positive. i'm just hoping he pulls through. this year can't get any worse than it already is...

well, hell...prognosis is 6-12 months. we're doing a consult with University of Pennsylvania tomorrow.

this is the worst day of a year of awful days.

So sorry to hear about your boy! My Lab has chronic renal failure for the last 6 yrs.. I hope all goes well at the U of P. I wish I could give you more but ARF and CRF are 2 different beasts to deal with. You are in our prayers while you wade through this.

well, the news went from bad to worse. his kidneys were underdeveloped - just one of the risks with the runt. this was not inherited. there's nothing anyone can do but make him comfortable until it's time for him to leave us.

we got back from Philly this afternoon, and he was perky, happy to be home, excited to see "grandma" and his "auntie" from across the street. my parents are going to visit tomorrow to say goodbye, as my mom wants to see him while he's still in good spirits.
