First of all, thanks to all you guys for the nice posts. I haven't slept too well this week.
We took him again yesterday and she decided to give him a short acting steroid to see if he gets his appetite back. She didn't want to put him on Prednisone yet as she's still worried that it would make his pneumonia worse.
She's still uncertain as there are two choices regarding his lungs. It's either pneumonia or he's had a severe allergic reaction to something. Going back to when all this started, it was shortly after he raided the pantry one day when we were away and got into everything in there. I remember seeing little packs of hot chocolate all over the living room so I know he got into those for sure. He also got into pancake mix, nutrition bars etc...
So about an hour after we got home he started perking up and being himself again, which means he started bringing me toys and engaging me to play. He got his appetitie back and ate a good meal. So last night was a good night and I was somewhat relieved.
So this morning I called her and told her that the injection (steroid) worked. She now prescribed him a small dose of prednisone and doxycycline to see how that goes.
I suppose it's an improvement but I'm still worried as his lungs still looked bad and she doesn't know for sure that they are that way because of an allergic reaction or pneumonia. I wish there was a way to find out for sure so we can treat him accordingly. He had a high white cell count.
This is the latest. Right now he's chewing on a bone and he still seems energetic so far. I hope that doesn't change after the steroid wears off.
I'll keep you guys updated and thanks for all your concerns about Mako...
