In the instance of my husband, this doctor's office only offered 6 months interest free when the brochure shows that there are 12 and 18 interest free offers as well.
Then there's the 24, 36, 48 and 60 month payment plans that are not interest free.
Sorry, looking at the brochure, it's called CareCredit and not "credit care."

Bad timing as I have two kids and xmas is coming... | I'm sorry your boy is going thru this.
I find my dogs never seem to cooperate with the "good timing" thing, and in fact, they seem to delight in planning things for weekends and holidays.
That said, this could be an opportunity for a very teachable moment for your kiddos.
Have a family meeting. Sit them down and talk about what Christmas really means--or should mean--which is about doing kind things for other family members and friends.
Talk about how Mako may need some big help, and how that may mean everyone in the family will need to pull together and give some things up, for Mako's sake.
Your kids may surprise you. They may very well understand (depending on their ages) and would rather have their beloved dog safe and sound with them, rather than that newest trendy item on the Santa list.

| | Dobie Lover | Thanks to all for replying to this thread and wishing Mako well...
I just got back from the Vet's office. Last week I had spent $200 on his first visit and just now I dropped $695 on various tests, x-rays and injections for a total of $895 for the week....ouch. I guess my kids will have a very thin xmas after all...
When I first explained his symptons she thought for sure he had an obstruction but a few x-rays later including his chest (which the other Vet didn't take) showed he has pneumonia.
She seemed very concerned about this and showed his lungs are not in good shape. I have no idea how he got this. She said it could be from his coughing and vomiting or him ingesting all the crap he ate lately could've caused an infection.
So $900 later I know what's been ailing him. I just hope it's not both this and an obstruction as well. I'm worried for him if he doesn't get better or start eating. She wants me to give him an update every day and go back Thursday. I'm also supposed to put him in the bathroom and run the hot water and let him breathe the steam for a few minutes to loosen the mucus. And then cup and clap on his chest to help loosen it up.
So there it is... I hope he shows a recovery soon. He got 4 shots including a nausea shot, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic which I'm resuming in pill form tomorrow.
Thanks for answering my thread and I will pray that my boy recovers and gets back to the Mako I'm used to, but maybe a little less mischiveous...
I will keep you all posted... |

| That's a relief. Pneumonia is serious, no doubt, but I've had several dogs get over pneumonia (one dog adopted from the shelter and one foster). My question is... how did your vet not hear pneumonia when listening to his lungs on the initial exam. Both times that's how mine were diagnosed and then confirmed with an x-ray if I recall correctly. Seems like a lot of tests to diagnose something that should be able to be heard when listening to the lungs. Your vet isn't Banfield by chance is it? lol\
That being said I'm not a vet so what do I know. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! |

| Was the vet able to see the heart clearly on Xray?
I know he's awful young, but I can't help but worry about heart things/fluid build-up in a Doberman.
What antibiotic did she put Mako on?
Feed him very small, very tempting meals several times a day, rather than your usual schedule.
Pneumonia makes you feel real crappy and you can't eat much at one time.
Vibes for Mako.

| | Dobie Lover | I don't know what to think anymore....this morning he seemed a bit better but now I noticed his body is covered by spots or hives raised under his skin. His rib cage area on both sides, hind legs and pretty much everywhere on his body.
I called the Vet and she said to get him an antihistamine (Benadryl) and to stop giving him the Ampicillin which is one of two Antibiotics he was put on. Also to give him Pepcid for his stomach.
He's still not that interested in eating so I don't know what else to feed him as he doesn't like anything right now... |

I usually see vets give doxycycline for respiratory things.
What are they switching him to, do you know yet?

Now we added the Benadryl antihistamine and pepcid pills. He's taking a lot of pills which he hates. We bought him some rotisserie chicken and luckily he ate that for now... |

I agree with Darkev, write all down while you can remember it. Especially about the ampicillan reaction. You need to keep a record of what, when and how much he is eating, ditto for drinking. I would also make notes on pee and poop.
The rotisserie chicken was very smart. Nothing smells as good as rotisserie chicken for sure!!! You can feed him the back, breast and rib bones as those are soft bones, mostly marrow, won't splinter. Don't feed the leg bones, upper and lower, wing bones or those little straight bones above the breast. Be careful about the skin as it pure fat and could cause pancreatitis.
Maybe he will get to feeling a little better with eating the chicken meal.
Oh, nearly forgot to say, he is a very pretty boy. I was wondering yesterday what he was looking like now. Thanks for sharing the new pictures!!! |

| Oh man, I am so distressed to read about this. So sorry for you and Mako, he's a gorgeous dobe.
Hope all goes well at the vet's office and that you can get to the bottom of this infection and allergic reaction. (I have had allergic reactions to antibiotics myself, so I fully identify with how lousy he feels. Itchy, irritated and even sore in the joints, I bet.)
Hugs and best wishes he's feeling better soon.
