It is with great dober pleasure, to announce & share our new family addition...KELLY...at 9.5 weeks old.
Last Friday we drove from Ontario, Canada, across 3 States to Illinois to get our new baby girl...with Nancy, Andrew (son) and Larry on board.
Friday was 11 hours on the road, stayed overnight in Chicago, off to breeders and back home, another 14 hours Saturday travelling.
- round trip totalling 1950 Km or 1200 miles
- she was great in the car, and we stopped several times / two of us went into a restaurants and one stayed back, to baby sit
- had lots of time to cuddle & bond some, on the loving trip home...and luckily the weather was perfect
I could not have asked for more good luck, we love our Kelly girl dearly.
- Sandra G.Hunter (aka Sandi) has a super clean facility, and 3 adult dobes, sleep in her bedroom at night / very nice and most knowledgeable breeder.

Kelly is from the pairing of:
sire: BISS GCh/Can Ch Lyndobe's Turn On Da Charm WAC CGC
dam: Ch Bruda Up In Spirit
- producding 4 girls & 5 boys = 4 black/5 red pups

FYI - Interview with Sandra G.Hunter, the famous Doberman Breeder, BRUDA DOBERMANS, Illinois USA.
Interview Date : 27th March 2004 Woodstock Dog Training School | Dog Grooming, Dog Breeds, Dog Diet, Dog Health, Training Dogs, Dog Trainers, Dog Trainer, Dog Training School, Dog Training, Dog Obedience Training, Dog Security Training, Dog Grooming Services

Stay tuned - I have lots more pictures, to share...with my DT friends / and puppy "story time" to tell.
(LOL - son taught me how to shrink & link photos, off my new camera, just last night)

Downtown Chicago, photo taken early Saturday morning...checked out before 6:00 am.

Leaving Chicago, photo from Volvo wagon window...3 more hour drive, to see our puppy.

Illinois flat countryside, lots of tall windmill's across one long stretch of hwy...another 45 minute drive, for exciting puppy time.

Mom gets first look, for her new baby - black or red girl, is still the breeders secret.

We always give our son Andrew, 1st honors to hold the family dober puppy.
- he said he will remember this family trip, for the rest of his adult life

FYI - a nice update of photos, will come this week, but this Dad finds it a PITA having raw 6-9MB large files to re-format& size !!

Kelly will be 1/2 y/o next week, and she had her new West London, ON. Vet visit (from HELL) on Saturday.
- stool sample was perfect
We researched & thought we had found a "local holistic" practice, and within a few minutes I was told "so your hear fo all her shots".
- well NO, and I don't do rabies vacine without a 3 week window, from the rest
(Tech said we do 1 year shots / NO I said, 3 year are available....Yea, we can do that she quickly said...LOL)
(I said - Kelly don't play with skunks or raccoons, therefore don't need to TAX her immune system early on IMO, therefore she is not currently at risk)
Kelly will get her shot at 8 months old, followed by titter testing....16 week legal requirement, no thanks.
- Vet Tech, assumed my wife and I knew less than her because her BF has a 9 month old dobe male
- NO, I have had dobes since 1977 & trained them & other people dogs

Kelly was perfect in the waiting and exam room, than this Tech questions me on puppy socialization...know it all "B-ach".
- our "all life feeding kibble" program turned into a slight arguement, she said domesticated animals need puppy food / like wolf or fox litters, don't eat part of the kill
(I didn't even tell the Vet Tech that I have been selling Holistic &/or Organic kibble for a decade now...and stopped stocking puppy food after one year on business)
- our girl also gets a can of sardinees or salmon, every night as a supplement
- to top it off, it was suggested that be Kelly spayed at 5 months old (like 3 weeks ago...he-he) / NO, after growth plates close like 1.5 y/o (I said)

Regular Vet comes in the waiting room, and some toned down BS, but under some caution...obviously heard from the Tech recap....Larry & Nancy, not a good up-sell $$.
Finally, we all agree on:
Her stool sample and toe nail trim, ALL we are her for today...Vet said Kelly was in perfect health, from regular examination...great, lets get home !!

Kelly, "big head / little puppy bum / & long legs"...(he-he)...talking back to Dad....making me laugh, showing her little white front teeth.
- at country home construction job site (photo ~one month ago)
- putting new sub floors, in the sunroom

^^^^ Yea, on the look out for a new Vet...won't go back there (West side of London, ON).
Amy had two Vets, they all come with certain +/-'s.
- always searching for the #1 clinic
I took a load of Kelly/human socialization photos, since Friday...stay tuned my friend.

Oh goodness, I wish I had your cahoonies when standing up to my vet/vet techs. Sometimes the people who work there can make you feel so little...Looking forward to some pictures!
^^^^ We wanted the poop analysis, more than anytihing...make sure no worm's present...as she was a thin pup.
- not to concerned her stool sample wouldn't check out "a-ok" because she didn't chew her hind end
Thanks for the vote of "cahoonies-balls", I was on my best behavior (fun actually) questioning the "Vet $$ robbers" on every point they brought up...just to piss them off.
- wife & I didn't agree or accept, any of their recommendations
- within 10 minutes of the Vet visit, they knew full well...this couple isn't a push-over, no extra clinic $$ to be had
Made us MAD actually, not to respect Kelly's young developing immune system...WHY WEAKEN IT, early ??

Good for you for sticking to your guns at the vet's office! (She could probably stand to gain a few pounds though, she's looking quite thin. These guys have such high metabolisms at this age!)
^^^^ Thks, wife and I protected Kelly from corporate profit greed...lol....easy for us, had dobes since 1977...not born yesterday.
Kelly was super active & consquencly on the rather thin side, 1st couple months.
- I even increased her kibble intake (early on), well beyond the bag chart feeding guide ("ALS" + 50% puppy ++, by body weight)
In the last few weeks, our baby girl gets a full can of sardinees or usa pink salmon DAILY...as a supplement
- plus the Holistic lamb and rice kibble (100% diet now 40%), since converted to 60% chicken & salmon / the new blend is several % higher in protein & fat
Glad to report, Kelly's put on a healthy weight recently, first dobe I could not free feed (the past ones, regulated their own food intake)....& she is looking real GOOD now.

For comparison (see post #152) - Kelly's weight gain, under our altered feeding program (last 2 weeks):
- I think she is looking more ideal...Vet weighed our girl at 43.4 lbs. on Saturday / well feed, little porker (now)
Wife brought home an 8" leg bone for the princess....one hour later, still chewing on it....best $4 we ever spent at the butcher shop.

We had our sons dog (7 lb. YorkiePoo) to babysit over the weekend (while he had a business trip in Toronto)...Trevor or aka Mr. "T".
- little man thinks he is "all alpha boy" and baby Kelly hadn't read his e-mail yet...so 2 days of chaos...:roflmao:...young Kelly doesn't "bow down" to nobody

Kelly @ 4.5 months old on Jan. 23, 2013 = visiting the RONA building supply store with Dad.
- many bigger retailers don't allow dogs, but I know both the managers (it helps), everyone loved her and stopped to chat and pet the girl
The shopping cart ride idea was a no brainer, since I didn't have her leash in my 4x4 truck (carried her in on my shoulder)...Kelly enjoyed the look around.

It's been a while to come back to your thread! I was about to miss cutie Kelly's pictures.

I really love seeing her on the shopping cart:nicejob:
No one can resist to stop by her;)

We've just done the similar thing today. We visited the DIY store where also has a pet store/grooming. Elza enjoyed the 4-wheeled drive in the shop:D You might remember that the boxed type cart specializing for the large breeds.

Kelly is the lucky girl who can be with her Daddy all the time!

Kelly socializing and getting some lovin @ my friend’s new GARAGE, on Feb. 11, 2013 = 5.0 months old girl, in the photos:
- one of the brothers is a pet food customer of mine, they both love the dobe breed & enjoyed hearing about our USA weekend trip, to pickup the baby
Kelly has been fully off-leash for two months now:
So I showed the guys how good I could talk Kelly into the front seat of my 4x4 truck (parked in front of the shop), without a leash.
- sorry, no muscle cars at their shop, but one 20 year old nice Harley was in the waiting room/office and I had to capture the picture

Kelly patrolling our front yard, on March 3, 2013 = 5 months & 3 weeks old:
Outside potty break squat time and then she heard a noise, down the street....must check it out, imminent threat.

Kelly’s protection instincts kicked in asap...& when she looks back, pup is listening to Dad talking to her.
Finally, a relaxing sit at the end of our paved driveway from all her “property & neighborhood security work"...all has proved out to be a-ok (this time)...LOL.

She is an absolute beauty :) Makes me almost wish I'd gotten a black... Maybe Jaina will need a new little sibling sooner than later LOL. I almost went Bruda, too :) I can't believe how big Kelly has gotten.

These dogs are amazing. When I've previously read how you trained them, I didn't think it'd work for me. But it does. Jaina listens so incredibly well, and really knows her boundaries - even when we are visiting relatives, if I let her off-leash, she knows better than to run off. It's amazing how intelligent they are.

Our city is actually requiring us to put a Tritronics collar on Jaina for some of the same barking. We apparently have a neighbor who is going to report us for everything - whether it's forgetting to trim our lawn or her barking when someone new enters the house.

Glad to be moving. Let's say she has the collar... but it's never turned on ;)

Love all your updates on Kelly. She is gorgeous. Lots of good socializing going on.
^^^^ Thanks & Thks, we use every unique opportunity (at our disposal)...I find the small shops, don't discourage us dropping in.
- the local big box stores have sign posted doors, "no dogs allowed"...:(...

..........I really love seeing her on the shopping cart:nicejob:
No one can resist to stop by her;)

:D^^^^ She tried jumping out of the cart once (but it was a brand new experience), so Dad and Kelly had a little talk...don't want to spoil our store freedoms (he-he).

Part 2 - Kelly visits electrical supply shop, on March 4, 2013 = 5 months & 3 weeks old:
- She sure likes running around freely in the warehouse and visiting the service desk, to greet customers, plus snooping she finds most exciting
- Then back into the truck, and headed off to our home reno project.

Our garage owner friend, stops in for an electric auto repair part...Kelly remembers him (from last week), a dobe lover.

I can't get a good picture Kelly, if you don't slow down...lol....she is having too much fun, checking this new place out.

Oh, someone just came in the front door, Kelly will charm the walk-in customers.

Truck ride time...on the road again.

She's getting so big! I love your updates, and thanks for posting the pics.
^^^^ Thks for appreciating the photos, got some more below from 2 weeks ago....Kelly at 1/2 year old:
Yea, not only putting on nice weight and growing into her long legs...for a puppy, Kelly is as strong as an ox.

Kelly, Mom & Dad out on a walk....first order of business, was to visit with the local & future hockey stars, down the street.
- we ended up at the fenced in public school yard (play area)...the same school our son went to 25 years ago
- her fleese coat, fits a little loose but it does the trick...during out late winter Ontario temperatures

Kelly is actually quite good on a leash, luckly not a puller.

Kelly meeting the road hockey kids.

She is exploring, the play ground equipment:

Time to get leashed back up & head home:

Kelly @ our retirement home renovation, on Jan. 23/24/25, 2013 = 4.5 months old:
Puppy is on the job site, 5 days/week with Dad...no construction work or squealing power tool noises bothers her, she is very use to it all.

Laundry area has been moved out of the basement (for Mom) and into the corner of the rebuilt sunroom.
The wash basin stand had to be elevated so PVC drain could be run without an electrical water discharge pump, the custom wood frame was made with cedar cut offs.
Took a fair bit of planning & plumbing, for relocated laundry room to work, but well worth it.

Kelly sleeping, through all the nearby noise.
I bought the $500 DeWalt rapid-screw gun, for sub floor installations...glad I did, already saved $400 on tool rental costs & labor efficiency 3x faster.
(overall $$ savings)

I didn’t have a lot of Kelly napping pictures, so I posted this one in the monthly calendar contest, just for fun.

Main floor laundry room - relocation:
Corner of sunroom, starting to take shape. (plumbing - hot & cold water supply + drain, electrical, natural gas line, HVAC tin, etc.)

Kelly is happy as long as she is with Dad.
(she did say something about an extra dog bed at the new house)
:lol2:^^^^ Sorry, Miss Kelly don't sleep well on Dog beds (limited experience I guess), but any leather couch will do, or even a bunk bed !!
- now if she was invited to Ontario Cottage Country (some long weekend), Dad would have to sleep on a dog bed with her...:roflmao:
