| About to put a knife in my ear... So Mariano had a nice 3 hour playdate of non-stop running and romping today, so he passed out on the couch this evening. I have some cleaning to do for tomorrow, but he refuses to let me leave the room, and wants to be invovled in the process, because he is involved in EVERYTHING. With all the cleansers I am using, I did not feel good about having him around them, so I put him in his crate.
I was only planning on having him there until I was done cleaning the bathroom, so about 25 mins or so... but he has suddenly decided HE WILL NOT BE CRATED.
Instead of his usual 2 min cry and settle he does when I put him in his crate, he is barking at the TOP OF HIS LUNGS non stop. I will not let him out until he calms down, but until then, I am dying.
I am worried he is going to overheat or hurt himself the way he is barking. It has been hald an hour, which does not sound like much, but you are not here lol .
Just thought I would rant.

| Ahh, puppies...
Ear plugs or turn the tv/cd player up louder I've heard of people having success with an egg timer next to the crate, the sound puts them to sleep. |

| I was not ready for him to be down for the night... If he goes to bed at 8:20pm, he will be up around 5:30am, and I am not the best morning person lol.
I have the music going, but I think it is making him bark louder!
He is still going lol.

| If that isn't usual behavior for him, maybe something is wrong? I know my pup won't settle unless she is tired. Very very tired, at that.
Dobermans are very much people loving dogs, so yours is probably just upset to not be with you, like you said. |

| I feel like a terrible mother... I took him out before he went in the crate, but he just peed. He finally stopped for a moment, so I let him out. Before I could reward him, he ran to the door, and cried to go out. He hardly made it out the door before he made the biggest poop of his life. Bad mommy.
After this much time, I normally know his I NEED TO GO NOW cry, and that was not it. Not that I have heard before at least. But now he is cuddled in on the couch watching TV, and we are both much happier.

| Meh, join the club. Which one of us hasn't ignored a barking, whining puppy, only to discover too late that they were desperate, and not just unhappy?

| Right now, I have to work late to get stuff pushed for work (VERY rare). I too Jaina out, played with her til she was pooped, and had to crate her to make sure she couldn't get into anything etc.
I'm now trying to finish this quick while she howls at me. I feel like a terrible dogmom, but this is the first time I've ever had to crate her like this. It kills me
edit: that being said, tomorrow she gets to go with me out to the country.

| Spoiled puppies..... Don't you give them a "Quit" or "Stop" with a bang on the crate? |

| I used to do that, and then Jaina started hating her crate. I quit, and now she's gone back to being OK about going in there. I think it's more that she just HATES not being able to sniff the cat/she's probably bored.
Anyway, now that work's done, I'm gonna go run my dog ragged Before she drives me nuts hehe

| Get a couple kong of toys and stuff them full of tripe, freeze them.
Put them in the crate with the door shut and the dog outside, let it get wound up to getting to them let it in close the gate, clean the house, read a book, whatever in peace.
Job done.
I agree with Emily B sometimes a slap on the crate works also, but try the kong method first. |
