Favorite Can't-Live-Without Puppy Things?

It's been almost 12 years since I had a puppy and I don't know what all I should have. What are your favorite, can't-live-without items to make life easier? He'll be coming here to live with my 13 yo Doughboy--I mean Doberboy, Walker.

Oooh crumbs, loads of things (mine's nine months old so I speak from quite recent experience), like....

1) Crate, if NOTHING else get this, it will help with potty training and all manner of other things. The crate should be just big enough for pup to stand, turn around and lie down in. I know that seems small but if its snug he'll feel secure and any bigger and he might pee in one corner and sleep in the rest, totally defeating the potty training aspect.

2) Nice soft fleecy bedding for the crate, vetbed is brilliant.

3) Kong, a puppy size one obviously. Great for playing with and also for chewing.

4) Chew toys. Especially important for teething, tsome of the best ones to get are those which you can freeze so that they cool sore little gums. Get a variety of different types of chew toy, all different textures, colours and sizes.

5) the only toy my little one would play with a first was a big fluffy gorilla, pups seem to like soft toys whihc are almost as big (if not bigger) than them. Perhaps they remind them of their litter mates.

Thats the initial stuff that springs to mind. Good luck with your new pup, you lucky thing!

A spot bot!!

Carpet cleaner for messes! This is the best compact steam cleaner around. I love mine.
If you don't have carpet, a good cleaner/disinfectant is always needed. If your puppy is a bedding chewer, I would recommend a primo pad for the crate. It's easy to clean and darn near chew proof.
Just some thoughts..

Definitely a crate with soft blankets

Baby gates! Life savers because they keep the little one safe in a restricted area, i don't know what i would do without lexx's gates

Toys, a good variety so that they stay interested. Lots of shapes and colours and textures, some soft some hard, some noisy some quiet...

other than that, the normal stuff, leashes etc

In addition to everything mentioned. Collar, leash.
Research where and when puppy will go to classes.
Posting ears--supplies ready. A mentor ready to help or the breeder if you need assistance.
Have fun.

Toys and more toys!!! There are soooo many fun ones out there. Petey has 7 so far for under the tree....I can't help myself, it is more fun then buying for the kids, because he actually plays with all his toys!

When is the big day?

7 new toys under the tree! Hopefully Rex does not see this. I actually have the same problem Carol, not quite to 7 yet. Our problem is both me and Rex's Grandma have already let him have a couple! Rex too LOVES his toys.
