| Dobe Bathroom Question Hello,
I take Rudy out after eating off leash and he usually pees and poops after running around. I live on 15 acres, so I usually have him off leash for poop and pee. I saw a video where an instructor said to have your dog on a 20-foot leash to pee and poop so you can have him/her do his/her business in an area where you want them to potty. That makes sense in case there is a snow storm or a rain storm. The problem I have is that I tell Rudy to potty on the 20-foot leash, and he pees but doesn't poop. He poops off leash fine. How can I get him to poop like he pees when on the 20-foot leash?
Thanks,
Scoob (Jim) |

| If you have him on the 20 ft leed everytime you let him out, he will poop on the lead eventually, he will have no other option. |

| We have a "potty song" Taught this at an early age to get them to go quicker. I still get strange looks from people when we are out in public though.

| I don't have a "potty song" but I would love to hear that, But from the day we brought hondo home when taking him out we always say "get busy" seems to be working good, it's to the point now where he can be running around with my parents dogs and i'll tell him to get busy so we can go, and he stops and pees, I'm really a fan of telling them when to pee. I've heard you can train them to the point where even on walks, they won't use the "washroom" unless told. |

| I've been using "let's go" or "go pee" for Lexx since 8 weeks and I can say that maybe 85% of the time it works, but its always that last pee before bed, when its freezing cold and raining that I'm stuck standing outside FOREVER when he JUST WON"T PEE. It drives me NUTS. I don't know if its going to get any better, but I guess we're still working on it....

I clip one end of a rope to Lucan's collar and the end clips to a ring on the handrail of the deck just outside the door. The rope will only reach to the grass so I only have to go to one spot to clean up. I use this for potty breaks only, and I'm able to stand on the warm side of the patio door! |

| Wish I had trained Java to 'poop on command'. She is pretty good, but having her go when needed would help, esp when we're on long car trips, and there isn't always a safe grassy area to bring her to. The trainer at Top Dog trained her dogs to go on command so that they'd go during the break when they weren't in the ring.
PS - would love to see a video of the potty song as well.....hehehehe....if it's any consolation, I get looks as well when I tell Java to 'go poop'.... |

| Oh Kratty I got to hear that potty song. Looking forward to the latest video of that one. Scoob in the show world when we need to dogs to go they often use a match stick. Just lick it (don't light it) and sick it 1/2 way in their anus and the dog will want to get it out of there. I had to teach Sierra to go on the road or we'd be out for hours before she would poop at the hotel. I found a very small twig 1/8 inch diameter or even the end of a maple leaf works great for her. She goes right away. Sounds gross but it works when you're on the go. So put it in there give him the command and he'll go...He'll get the idea quick.
