when do they stop growing

just wondering when do dobes hit maturity, and when do they stop growing.. my nieghbor has a 9 month old and wieghs 87 lbs... he still looks really skinny but he is really tall... it seems like he's just getting taller and not filling out... when do they start filling out.. he bought a leather harness specifically made for dobermans but it doesn't fit him.. he is too skinny so the front rubs on his pits

It's completely individual just like in people. Different dogs and different lines all mature at hugely different rates.

Some 9 month old male puppies are done with height and will fill out until about 18 months old. Petey hasn't grown in height since then, he was 88 pounds at 9 months old and has put on 10 more pounds in the last 4 months. I've been told he still might pick up more height in the next few months. He no longer looks like a gangly puppy, except....he still has big feet! Everyone that sees him says.....He has HUGE feet?! They all think he is going to be huge....I think he is done as his parents are not oversized, he just has big feet.

Is the dog neutered already? If so, he will probably grow taller and not fill out as much. When neutered before they are done growing, the lack of testosterone delays the closing of the growth plates which results in a taller, but weedier dog. If the dog is neutered after he is done growing (anywhere from 12 to 18 months usually), you can expect a more filled out dog.
