What should I expect....?

I'm waiting for Alexis to go through her first heat cycle before I get her spayed. I had Nikita spayed before her first heat. From what I have been reading, some of the first indications I should see are her nipples should enlarge along with her vulva enlarging. The whole process should take 3 weeks. What else should I expect to happen? Are their any behavioral changes that I will see, along with any other physical changes with this. She is almost 9 months old. I have a big o chastity belt already for her. Only 1 more session before her class ends and I have been thanking the gods that she didn't go in heat during the class. Even though it would have made a pretty good distraction test in class. What should I prepare for??? I am under the premise that the hormones released during this time should make her fill out quicker and will decrease the chances of incontinence in the future.

Every one is different Krat, Chelsie always had a hard time of it usually followed by a phantom pregnancy she is now speyed,Mischa turns into a cuddle bug(something she is not as a rule) and also has phantoms,Tia is just out of a heat cycle, she usually goes way out of condition but apart from that it has no effect on her behaviour and she is quickly back to normal, and Amber just is Amber and not affected by it one bit although she is shortly to be speyed also.

The heat cycle can last longer than 3 weeks. I just bred my bitch on day 25....ovulation occured on day 23. (Counted from the first day you see blood) The entire cycle is actually longer even that this....counting pre estrus and everything that happens after ovulation.

Most bitches start to bleed heavily about day 5 and can go that way for several weeks. Usually just before ovulation the discharge gets a bit clearer but not always.

The safest bet is to wait until all discharge stops and the vulva appears to be returning to normal. Then wait one more week after that to be sure you are ok before assuming the season is over. Many people think that as the discharge gets clearer and time goes on the bitch is out of season....LOL that is how many an accident happens. As you can see from my bitch..... had I assumed she was no longer in season after day 21 I would have missed the opportunity to breed her altogether.

Good luck
Elaine
