Momma's girl driving me nuts!!!

Hey everyone,
Well my little Myla girl is almost 11 months old. The past 2 months or so she's been a little hellion. She is reaaaaaally trying me. Thinks like... LOOK MOM! I can jump over the 5' fence in the back yard without trying! Te he! and ... "oops, u went to the bathroom and shut the door so I pooped on the floor". I realize she's testing my dominance, does anyone have some exercises I can do with her to help establish myself as pack leader?
Also, she's developed this incessant whining habit. If I'm on the phone or trying to do homework or answer e-mails she stands there and watches me while whining. She tries to get her head under my arm between me and the computer/phone/homework. It's driving me nuts! Is a time out in the kennel appropriate discipline? She usually carries on for about 20 minutes or so then gives up and lays down, but it's the most annoying 20 minutes!
Thanks
Amanda & Myla

Is she getting enough exercise, physical and mental? Petey has become the perfect gentlman at home if he has had both. I find if I take care of him first, then I can get to my life much easier afterwards. We just finished up a week with a houseful of people(max...24 for TG dinner), I couldn't have asked for a better behaved puppy, but I took him out for his hike each day, and had my guests doing obedience and playing with him several times during the day. All of my company fell madly in love with him. I am a very proud mom today!

Yeah, take her out for exercise periods and walks. Dobermans are active dogs and need time to run around -- supervised of course. Make sure you giver her some of your time too. If you have done that, get her a prong collar and a short leash -- just some suggestions. Others will have more.

If you haven't taken her through an obedience course, I would highly recommend it. If she has been through basic, then I would sign her up for the next level.
Good luck w/ your girl

Addie is a very high strung puppy. She does great after a 45 minute off leash run. She must run every day or she's too wild. Als othe obediance training seems to work much better after exercise.

If she's still not reliably house trained, maybe she should be put in a crate when you can't watch her ( yes... every second... even when YOU go to the bathroom) otherwise the behaviour might be very hard to correct. You can't reprimand her for her accidents if you don't see them after all!

As for the annoying level, I think what everyone said about increasing the exercise level, is probably the best suggestion! Also, make sure that you are not only working her physically but mentally as well. Maybe atleast 20-30 mins of training a day? Even simple stuff or fun tricks, something to get her thinking!

goodluck!

Do You do the NILF (Nothing in Life is Free) is suppose to teach the dog you ar the leader. Some of it is make them sit /down or do something before feeding, sit or down or something before petting, wait at door way you go first thru the door, wait until you say it is ok to get out of the car.Stuff like that you can do a search for more ideas on your computer may be more information on this site too.
11 months = Dober teen I would think.
Good Luck

I agree Patches Mom. Very well said. It's all about control. If they're controlled they're happy pupps.
