| Ear posting questions My new puppy appears to have not only pockets at the base of both ears, but it seems as if there is a flap on the (front) part of the ear as well. Pictures Attached.
I don't remember my last Dobie having a flap. But then again, I got him after his ears were done so I never had to pay much attention....
I have been posting the ears with cotton balls to fill in the pockets, as they are starting to touch (Oh no!).
What do you guys think about the flap? Should I just leave it alone?
Thank You
BTW: Tell me if the "flap" makes no sense...
Look at the right ear, at the front of the ear (the inner part?) is curling back.

| That was a hard picture for me to see anything. Is there any way to get a picture of him facing the camera? |

| We have ear 'flaps' in the front too. I asked our vet, a well known cropping artist, about it and it was totally normal
Sounds like you're doing things right by adding bumpers to fix the pockets.
Here's a picture of ours. Its really hard to get a picture of, esp. with a phone, but I stuffed the tip of my finger into the crease there to show you how deep it was. This is from the side of her ear facing her skull. (So hard to describe!) the proximal area, if you will. Also, the flaps are on the 'front' of the ear, on the ear edge closest to her nose.

| The flap is completely normal. Diesel has it too. Also if you're using a bridge in between the posts take it out good luck! |

| @kwhite: When I got him, the breeder was using a bridge, what's the deal with that? Why do some use it and others don't? |

Just trying to save you some trouble in the long run some also believe it restricts movement which it can but Diesel never had problems moving his ears with it but he definitely can move them more now without it which helps make them stronger.
If you want to use a bridge please make sure to not make it tight the tighter you make the closer his ears will get to each other and it's a pain in the butt to make them not touch if they don't have pockets.
Side note: my breeder also posted that way but I forgot he mentioned to stop after a month plus I posted too close together. Ears should he posted at 10 and 2. Diesel is my first dobe so it's a learning lesson so it was my fault but we're slowly fixing it

| Alright, here are some more terrible pictures. Romeo was mad, for 1. having to wake up 2. having to sit still |

| The flap is supposed to be there. That front edge of the ear gives it quite a bit of stability as the cartilage gets a bit more firm.

| Ok, so one last question!! Could someone look at the first picture ( I think it gives the best example) and tell me if the pocket is extending to the front of ear? There is one in the back that I am working on, but with all this "flap" confusion I'm not sure if I should be popping that out as well...
Hopefully you see what I mean... |
