skin bond

Anyone ever heard of using skinbond or tingston on a puppies ears to hold them in a natural position?

Do you mean uncropped ears?
glue is used routinely on some dogs of certain breeds to get correct ear set (pugs, collies, terriers)

I couldn't find skinbond anywhere... no drug store in my area has it. I think it was discontinued...

Do you know if i can use the glue they sell in costume shops (designed to stick a fake beard to my face for example) ?

I want to know because the no tape ear standing method ( http://www.bogartsdaddy.com/Bouvier/...NoTapeEar.html ) interests me.

Thank you

There is a product called DUO available at Walgreens (in the cosmetics isle - it is for false eyelashes) that is very similar to skin bond. I have used it to keep the breathe right strips in my pups ears.

taping natural ears

You can get tungsten powder through the 3C's dog supplies:
http://www.3cdog.com/product_info.ph...oducts_id=1490

Skin bond is apparently discontinued but here is a like product:
http://www.allegromedical.com/ostomy...e-p551823.html

Put some glue on the ear tips then dip them in the tungsten powder. The weight will hold the ear down. You can also take two strips of tape and skin bond them to each ear (one on the top and one on the underside towards the tip and run the strip under the dogs chin to the other ear and tape/glue it. This will hold the ear in a natural position without allowing the ear to be raised enough to fold backward. I like the tungsten better as all you have to do is put some glue on the tip and then dip in the powder. (A little goes a long was as tungsten is VERY heavy) it is less noticeable and no hassle with tape. Sheltie and terrier people use it all the time to get the tips to fold over.

Good luck

Elaine

Check your local yellow pages for medical supply stores. You can find the equivalent to skin bond and whatever tape you need there. It's true, "skin bond" is no longer available but, they do carry the a product similar to it, "Torbet" is the name.

I used the no tape method on Bane. It is a good alternative though, trust me, you'll still need to tape, lol.

You can use torbot glue in place of skin bond
http://www.torbot.com/view/featured/147/
I ordered once from them it took a week to get here paying on the phone

I ordered more from
http://www.jrsmedical.com/manu/10002...0/product.aspx
price was a bit lower, shipping was less (I ordered 2 cans this time just in case with no extra shipping fee)
I ordered it and paid on phone on monday afternoon and got it on wednesday. Might vary depending on where you live.

"no tape" method

This example is on a bouvier....the ear crop on that breed are vastly different than a doberman.

It's true the example given is on a Bouvie... but, I have seen it used on many dobes with a medium/pet crop with great results. Check out Cara Dobermans web site. Ray Carlisle endorses this method, and having utililized it personally, I give it a thumbs up. Though as I stated, additional taping may be needed.
