| A little cheese is fine for training treats. And I agree that if your dog is a puller than a prong collar is better than a choke, but if he isn't pulling then it isn't needed. I never use one for obedience with Cher as she never pulls during obedience. I have one to use on walks, but it usually just sits on her with the training tab dangling and I rarely use it. I have a regular collar on her at the same time that I use, with the prong collar for a backup if needed.

| | Lil Dog | She did not say when to use it or what age . She said that is what they use when the do train. I would think that would be to young but which is better to use when we train a pinch or choker? |

| How do you know he even needs a choke or pinch collar? I've never had to use anything except Red's regular flat nylon collar. I bought a pinch collar once for pulling on the leash, but it just made it worse actually. So he only wore it for maybe 10 minutes, and he's never had another training collar on since.
Just because you have a powerful breed, doesn't mean you need a choke or pinch collar. Regular training, obedience, and establishing yourself as pack leader is more important than the collar you use, imo. |

| Our trainer suggested the stinkiest cheese for training Jack. He got so little, so it never affected his stomach or his bowl movements. I gradually switched over to rolled meat log (Natural Balance has lamb, turkey and beef) as I got better result swith the log. His breath was nicer too! |

| Our trainer told us bits of cheese is ok and it has not upset my two pups stomach. I now use bits of fresh dried chicken when teaching a new command. They love it and will do almost anything for another bit. I have a problem with choke collars and will never again use one since my last dobie died from Wobbler's syndrome. I agree with D&D, be the alpha and perhaps a collar of any kind will be unnecessary. Hope this helps. |

| pinch > choke from what I've read on here. There are a lot of posts regarding the two training collar types, if you do a search you should be able to come up with a plethera of information! goodluck with the training. I use cheese and meat roll ( natural balance) together, so that he's not getting the same treat everytime and he doesn't get bored. Plain old cheddar seems to work great! |
