| boy vs girl For those of you that have had male and female Dobes... would you say there are typical differences in the sexes?
More aggressive?
More cuddly?
More clownish?
Bigger babies?
Harder to housebreak?
I would like to add Dobe #2 within the year and am considering getting a male this time. I have Lexie now (obviously a girl).
Thanks for the insight.
Lisa

| You could take Petey and give him a try.....and then the next week I'll take Lexie....then we could see if we really want another Dobie!!!
Males are a bit longer to mature, we have to wait for that brain to be delivered at 2 or 3, and a bit bigger(Petey is around least 95#) So that means stonger, and you have to really stay on top of them, they are very pushy, so you really have to be the alpha!

| I have to agree with Luvbirds59. Jack was bigger (100lbs) and VERY strong. We were constantly having to "remind" him that we were the top dogs, not him. All in all, he was very easy to train, in fact too easy. He was very sharp and a great alarm system. He was territorial, would not allow anyone on our lawn, but was fine as long as we were outdoors with him and he got to patrol his yard. He also would be very protective of us and would make it know that he did or did not like someone. He was a big lap dog though and would bark when he wanted to lie on "his" sofa. I guess each dog has their own personality. I've never had a female, so I'm curious what others have to say. |

| | Alpha | Speaking only from my own experiences.... I'd have to say that males are more clownish and cuddly. Females a bit more moody. Neither more aggressive (not a good thing regardless of sex) but, males more alert and females more apt to take real threats more seriously. Housebreaking, pretty even. They are all big babies whether male or female, lol. Before Bane I might have thought females were a bit more stubborn but, Hahahahahaha....I don't think that anymore, lmao.
Take care! |

| I've had both, but for some reason (according to Donnie anyway) I have this insane knack for "stupifying" my dogs. So all of my girl dobes over the years(Cher included) all act like bouncing bumbling goofballs just like the boys. If I just look at Cher, point my finger at her, narrow my eyes and say "stupid!" she bares all her teeth, snorts, and gets major zoomies from one end of the house to the other. Unfortunately, she's also not very dainty so she's like a rhinoceros on a rampage, with the macaw yelling at her to "knock it off!!" the whole time. Oh well, she's cute.

I've said this before..but I think the primary difference between the two sexes is bitches have much more complex thought processes than dogs. They also tend to be sneaky.

oxc | Don't be scared Carol. Females can be anything you want. There are some very good things about them. My Keely was the "dainty Lady of the manor." She did have her terror moments too, just not like the boys, lol. |
