1st Day of Kindergarten

Today was Risa's first day at puppy kindergarten! I'm so proud of her! It was her first time meeting dogs that are NOT Dobermans and who are not part of her family. She was a little tentative at first but then quickly got into play mode! After class, there was open play time. More dogs came, and so she met about 12-15 new dogs today. I didn't do a good enough job socializing my first Dobe, and so I'm determined to do things better with Risa. This past week she's also gone to Michael's (arts & crafts store), Petco, and Lowe's. She is also goes to work with me at the university. She gets to meet students when they have appointments with me, and she sleeps in her crate (in my office) when I'm teaching. The Dean has given her a warm welcome, and I'm SOOOOO excited that they are letting me take her to work! Fiddler is getting more used to her but runs to the other room when she barks. She's doing much better with the crate training and even slept through the night this past Wed. and Thursday. She'll be 12 weeks old tomorrow. Here's a picture of her taken on Oct. 6th. She's growing so quickly! I have some video footage of her and am in the process of getting it ready to go public.

Michael's and Lowe's allows pets inside the store?? I never knew that! There is a Michael's right next to the Petco where I take Red, but I never knew I could take him in there too! Do you have to get special permission or anything?

I usually pop my head in and ask. My Lowe's gave me a firm NO and escorted me out, but HH Gregg and Tractor Supply were more than happy to see him.

I didn't give them a chance to say no. I just took her inside and figured the worst that could happen is that they would ask me to leave. I did put her in the cart because I was looking for a number of items and had to walk all over the place. The workers in Lowes were very friendly to her. Most the people in Michael's were rather indifferent. One or two people even pulled away from her when she reached toward them with her nose, but they didn't say anything to me. I hear our local Barnes & Nobel allows dogs. I'm going to try them out either this week or next.

Glad everything is going good with the puppy

We just got back from the video store and we took Reggie with us, we just walked in like we owned the place and they didn't say a word to us

I'm going to have to make some phone calls this week and find some other places that allow dogs!!

I just get concerned that people will think that I am walking in with my dog because he is a service animal. That is something I really don't want to mess with, but you're right, the worst they can do is kick you out.

She looks like she's having fun! That's great that you can take her to work with you - I want to find a job like that!

We always take Elli to Petsmart, but since you've mentioned other places, we'll have to investigate where else we can take her into. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the puppy-K class!

you're so lucky to be able to take her to work with you! she is adorable. more pics please! i bet she'll be the smartest one in class.
