Ripsi is on a distinguished road
Question ? , nipples are still swollen.

Ripsi starting her bleeding phase for her first heat ,July 21st,and lasted 4 weeks which ended Aug 19th. Her appetite got better for a few days and went back to not having much of an appetite unless you, put moist food with the dry. We've noticed her nipples have stayed swollen for a few weeks, and we called the vet, and they said she's probably going thru a false pregnancy. It's now Oct 4th, basically a month and half now, and the nipples are still sticking out far. Shouldn't they have gone down by now? How long does it usually take? Her food appetite is better, some days she doesn't eat till late at night. We are giving her glucosamine mixed with her food for her ears, 2 feedings a day, not sure if the glucosamine has a role in it or not. Thanks

Dogs going through false pregnancy will prob go through the whole "gestation" period of 63 days, and then a few more weeks as they are "nursing". Some even produce milk. Best to spay her ASAP to prevent this. Once it happens they usally keep having false pregnancies. I'd see the vet and see what he thinks.

All bitches go through false pregnancies after every season-it's just that they're more extreme in some bitches than in others.

But a lot of people don't realize that nipples on intact bitches don't stay "puppy tiny" once they go into season the first time. It's the norm for intact bitches to have fairly large, noticeable nipples after they mature sexually. Those nipples *may* get larger than usual immediately after a heat period due to false pregnancy, but they're not going to be inobtrusive again unless/until they're spayed.
