I missed getting the section when John made his posts, but I will try to explain. John uses the cardboard rods from pant hangers. The ones you get back from the dry cleaners. He cuts them to length each time. You can get two post from each rod. They stick a piece of cotton into the bottom of the post and then flower it out. You tape the flowered out portion of the cottom around the base of the rod. He uses 1 inch zonas tape to secure it and then reverse tape(sticky side out) the post also with the zonas tape. He uses a small piece of 1/2 inch of zonas tape to secure the tape to the top of the post. This keeps the tape on the post from sliding down. Curasilk tape is used to wrap the post around the ears. For the brace, he use 1/2 inch tape for that. I have used zonas and J&J water proof tape for that. If needed, I should be able to do a video of how to make the posts.

That would be great if you had time to also video the part where you make the posts. I just want to be sure we're doing everything right.

I'm new to this forum and we got our puppy 2 weeks ago - she is 11 weeks old today. We just started posting a couple days ago and this video is VERY helpful. Thank you so much!

Okay, I added a video of how to make the post used in the other videos. These are made from the cardboard rods that you find on pant hangers. Found at your local dry cleaners.

Just watched the video on how to make the posts - thank you so much! It didn't occur to me to tape the top to keep it from sliding or to put Neosporin on the bottom of the cotton ball. Aren't videos great?! Thanks again!

Hi all!

I posted my puppy's ears again yesterday after watching all 3 of the videos, and put the posts in as deep as possible and they were firmly in place and lasted all day and looked great. However, at night when she sleeps in her crate, she sleeps on her back and rolls around and by the morning the bottoms of the tampons had popped out of her ears. It was then hard to get them back in, but it seems once they've come out once, all she has to do is roll around on her back and they pop out again.

Any suggestions? Am I just not putting the tampon deep enough down? I think I'm getting it as deep as possible, but is there a technique to get it deeper? Is it because of the way she sleeps on her back and I need to start taping firmly at the base of the ear, instead? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

One question, using these rods as posts can you still post a larger pups ears? Length isn't a problem but what about the width of the post? On a 6mth old would the width of the post still work?

I'm not sure what could be happening. The only times I had that problem was when a post becomes bent in the base area or I didn't stretch the tip enough before tapping to provide enough tension. This is strange. I would make sure you are getting the bottom of the post in the deepest section in the base and try again. Maybe its just alittle uncomfortable for her, right now, and she is working it out. Hopefully that will pass. You got me there.

I guess it would depend on the type of cut of the crop. We have a long show crop and we don't tape all the way down the post near the base. The width works fine for us so far

My boy also has the long show crop but has pockets at the base as I am sure everyone is painfully aware of I will try it so thanks for the feedback, hopefully since I will also be using torbot glue to keep it stretched leaving the base untapped may be fine. Thank you.

Thanks! We re-posted and I think we were flowering the cotton at the bottom of the post too much, which made it too wide and not go down as deep as it needed to go. We didn't do it as much this time and made sure we were getting it in the deepest section and it seems to be a lot better.
Also, we noticed that her head is bigger than it was just a couple days ago (she was sporting that long legs, small head, baby moose look for awhile), so I think that also contributed to the popping out problem.

Thanks for all your help!
