I have searched for posts on biting - but they all seem to be for older dogs. I have had puppies before, non-dobby, and none of them acted like this. It has gotten so bad I am worried she will not grow out of it. I have waited 30 years to be in a position to have a dobby. My 8 week old pup would rather bite my arm or hand, even when I try to give her a toy. She gets into this spaz mode and just flops around and biting anything to include herself. I try to redirect her but she just wants my arm, hand or anything on me. Anyone have this issue? She does not lick or let you pet her without the biting. No way can she be too young to train.... She is smart, house broken at 8 weeks, loven that. But this biting is driving me nuts; my hands are covered in cuts. I do not think it is attention or exercise, my wife is home with her all day. My two other dogs love to play with her. I just don't know what to do.

welcome to the dobe puppy hood. thats its normal behavior and everybody on here, will tell you, that we all went through this
when Apollo was that small, my legs and Arms were looking like i had a Tiger at home, but we went through this, it needs time and patients. have lots of toy's handy, if she goes for your arms or legs, tell her no and take a toy and replace your arm or leg with it, just keep doing it and she will get it earlyer or later.the biting is typical for puppy's and it will go away, just redirect her to toy's everytime she does it.
another thing is i doubt she is housebroken yet with 8 weeks , you just lucky right now, to get her outside right on time :biggrin:
since puppy's start to controll their bladder and bowel with 12 weeks

Thank for the reassurance that this is common at this age. We do redirect every time. I am sure she will get it soon enough, I am not used to a puppy that does not like you to death. LOL

House broke well maybe not 100% but she will whimper and as long as we take her outside immediately she will go outside. No she cannot hold it like our other dogs, but she does understand that is an outside activity.

We had wonderful sucess with Karmas house breaking as well.. As to the biting. She is just a mouthy baby.. Re direct.. One of the good habits to get into with her is begin to conrtol the playtimes.

Let her know that you are initating play, and you stop the play when it gets to wild or loud. We worked alot on that in the house.. It has been a blessing.

Be prepared tho, she will be nipping, biting, mouthyness.. for at least another 3 months. Just meet with a trainer and stay on your toes.. Most of all have fun.. and post some pictures!

Max was all mouth until he stopped teething. Redirect. Buy lots of chewies. Yelp etc. Eventually, they stop. Now, if I could stop the punching.

and don't worry she loves you, they are very mouthy babies andi know those little pyrania teeth are hurting alot, but they grew out of it
and whe got all her shots and is all set up, you can go to a puppy class. its fun and she gets socialising too for now, just play and enjoy her and redirect when she gets to mouthy. get some kongs fill them with peanutbutter and freez them or get some bones, that will keeps her busy and away from your arms and legs

Thanks, going to try the “play time”. See how that works.

I have tried rawhide type chewy but she gets very protective of them. So for now I will let her have any toy she does not get protective over. She is fine with her food and all the toys, but if she has a rawhide watch out she will bite you and growl with anger.

Yes she does have that innocent look like; hey it just showed up in my bed. LOL Yes, as soon as the shots are done we will both be trained by a trainer. I am going to look into the kongs….

I am glad this is normal activity for a dog her age. I was worried.

You need to nip the object guarding in the bud quickly.

if she starts growling over a bone or something, tell her firm no and take it from her. let her know,that all the toys and bones are yours and if she want it, she needs to behave, right now you still can teach her that, sure the little puppy teeth are hurting, but not so bad when they are grown and would get protective over some things, i never alowed that they get protective, always made to a game, when they have bones, to go to them and just take it away, if hey would growl, i say no and the bone is gone. so they even would try . you can teach her not be protective over those things, just make sure, she learns its all yours and you decide when she gets something and when not with 8 weeks, she should be protective over toys our bones.
teach her "Nothing its free life "( NIFL) they learn that preety quick, let her work for everything she gets, make her sit, before she gets her food, same with everything else, toy, bone, ect. that will bring her on the right track.

Remind her that her toys , treats, and chewies, are yours not hers.. She is probably getting a little posessive because she thinks they are her things.. Pick everything up. Share them with her on your trems. She is lucky enough to have an owner who shares the wonderful sqeaky toys with her.

Good advice guys, my 8 week old girl is biting constantly too! Have been managing to redirect most of the time, though having a toy on hand constantly is difficult!

thats quite normal dude.....it happens with almst all pups ...actually their teeth start itching bcuz they will fall now ...so pup starts biting everythng and it finds our hands bst place to do it...actually my tyson almost made my hand bleed severtal times untill i even asked my elders and they rplied to say NO To him..untill he finds that it is a bad habit

Yip, very normal. My hands, arms, and ankles were covered in cuts courtesy of my puppy until she was about 4 months old. They do grow out of it eventually. It just feels like they're never going to stop when you're dealing with it! This is only the beginning - Dobe pups are a handful. All I can say is work on your patience because you're going to need a lot of it!

Your little girl has a real WILD look in here eyes in the first photo! good advice given. Have you talked to your breeder about this. Pups do nip and bite but I have never had one that went 'snappy' and bit at everything. I wonder if she did it to her littermates or not.

OMG, I already forgot how small they are at eight weeks ! So cute, she has that devil Dobie puppy look in her eye's. I have to agree, this sounds like normal dober behavior.
My husband looked like a pin cushion when mine was small. When it came to me I pushed her away, redirected and said we don't bite the MOM. Some how she understood. Good Luck !

Thanks again for all the posts with encouragement and advice. I am going to check with the breeder and see what she was like. Maybe next week when her ears get done she will calm down for a couple days.

I do have to say, Brandy has been the best training aide for my teenagers. If they leave it on the floor Brandy will get it. I have been on them about cleaning up their messes. Not anymore..... LOL love it!

I was surprised at her size, thought it was just me living with 4 adult dobes. Very expressive face! do you have a kong for her? if so I would keep it handy, add some peanut butter or cheeze whiz and direct her to that when she tries to nip. be consistent and patient, she will learn
