Good Lord! I don't know if I should laugh or cry over that site!
I want to know who the "top show judge" was that told them "Nitro" was "top quality".
But to answer your question; I suppose they could be considered "rare" if only because responsible breeders don't breed for the gigantic size - therefore there aren't that many produced. But "rare" as in this size rarely occurs and should be proliferated before there are no more - No, they're not that type of rare.

Bigger is not better. The Doberman is suppose to be agile which is hard to do when you are big and clunky. Being large like that just brings on more health problems and believe me, this breed doesn't need anymore health problems.

They even give the standard on their web page and then breed against it!

Not one word about health testing and I see they actually brag they are the second largest Doberman breeder in the US. Really sad.

Oversized dogs aren't "rare," a lot of crappy backyard breeders pump out oversized dogs of a LOT of different breeds, including Doberman Pinschers, you can find quite a few in rescues and shelters. Any breeder that's worth anything breeds dogs to the standard, and that means NOT oversized dogs. If people want a dog bigger than a Doberman (which is often described as "medium sized" and "compact"), then they shouldn't go and purchase and oversized Doberman from an irresponsible party, but get into a breed that's known to be bigger, such as a Great Dane or Irish Wolfhound.

Is this McDonalds? Yeah, I agree with CM and really like how they put the standards up and breed out of it. But I especially love the picture of Nadia. Just stunning. :rolleyesw It is sad how many people will actually buy into it though and will purchase one thinking that they are rare.

I was thinking that too. (totally not serious though that she is stunning just in case people don't sense the sarcastic statement )

The supersized statement repeated throughout that website make me hungry for a quarter pounder and fries.......I kid you not!

Man, that is some slick advertising with a million red flags if you know anything about this breed .......or truly any breed. The phrases "We ship ANYWHERE", and "VISA Master card accepted" alone would make me turn tail and run even if I knew nothing about what a Doberman was supposed to be.........which for sure is NOT supersized!!

These are all things that you will learn if you hang around this forum - so I think it is good that you are asking questions......it IS how you learn. So Kudo's to you for asking :-)

thanks for the input guys..i just thought it was abit odd to advertise a super sized doberman..they seem to care alot more about the money than the breed and of there of..but i guess people will do anything for the all mighty dollar these days..

Oh my gosh! You have to read the FAQ page, I think my favorite sections would be the ones about the AKC's breeding guidelines, and the food they feed their dogs! Wow. http://www.bigdobermans.com/faq.htm

From the website: "We kept Zoie for our breeding program because she was the largest and most aggressive of the litter. When she was a puppy at about 3 weeks old we would poke her gently and she would growl at us. She has not been a disappointment. She is our yard dog that you can depend on."

That is not how to you decide which puppies to keep...
and "yard dog"? The whole website is full of contradictions...

Bigger is not better. You lose speed, agility, the bigger the dog - the shorter the life , etc.

I personally know of a dog that came from these back yard breeders, they go to one of our training clubs. The owners just didn't know any better at the time.

Yes, i have heard of this particular breeder. I would like to meet nitro as he seems like a cool dog but i wouldn't get one of their puppies, for sure. I would want a breeder who breeds to standards and has pups that are so.

back in black, what did you mean in particular about the food? Im not disagree with you at all, I am just trying to learn about the wrong things they are feeding or saying. thankx.:xyxthumbs

We've visited this site before! I didn't realize it until I read this: Q. Why should I buy an A.K.C. registered dog?
A. It's important to know what you are paying for. The A.K.C. has guidelines for breeders. When you get your registration papers you can also request the bloodlines to see where your dog came from. If something changes in your life and you need to find another home for your dog an AKC or CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) registered dog is easier to sell and you will get more money. Breeders have to comply with the A.K.C. guidelines or they cannot register their litters. Beware of backyard breeders, you don't know what you're paying for, these are the dogs that usually cost $200 - $400.

I particularly like this part ---> "About 75% of our puppies are sold before they are born, the rest are sold when we know exactly what colors and sex are in the litter (that is usually within a few days after the puppies birth).

Does it take that long to figure it out???

"Breeding a quality Doberman Pinscher, or any dog, is really an art. You don't just grab two Dobies and start breeding them, this is irresponsible! There are many things to consider before you start breeding two dogs. Conformation, size, bone structure, agility, temperament, etc, etc."

They underline the word Conformation on the website. How does breeding fat 29" dogs conform to the standard??

"2.) The ear crop protects your investment. If something changes in your life and you need to sell your dog, you will be able to get more money and sell the dog easier--this provides him with a better home also"

Another fantastic selling point!! This is a breeder who truly cares for their dogs...

I def could never just sell a pup to anyone I have never met..I wouldnt care about loosing money..if a breeder cant care enough to ask questions to the buyer then thats not a very good breeder. and they def dont seem like a very good choice if your looking for a possible breeder or quality pup.

Yes, I too defiantely see the multiple implications to the money. and dobedad, great point! thats definately not conformation.

Dakari, I am not at all defending this person but i thought the same thing at first too. but i think they meant that they are SOLD a few days after birth, not figuring out the colors and sex. If so, its incredibly crappy wording. but i agree, if thats what they meant, well then golly gee they shouldnt be breeding anything!

Hi all

I am new to this site. However I could not help but ask any of you about the old post you guys put up about the "super sized" doberman. I bought one from them and in fact she is much bigger then the regular size doberman. Her father was 31" to the shoulder and weights 125lbs and the mother is 29" tall and 110lbs. Is it me only or does the super size doberman really exist in the rare breed form?

There are many threads on this topic here on dobermantalk. A simple search of the forum would have turned up a few that would have given you what you're looking for. This article will help answer your question Warlock Myth
"superior size, king, warlock, goliath" etc. are all terms disreputable breeders use as a method of advertising their animals. In short, it describes grossly oversized out of standard dogs. Breeders breeding and advertising these dogs should not be supported.

Are you speaking in the 3rd person (referring to your own dog) or just attempting to ask a legitimate question? The wording of your posts is very confusing.
