I just received my 8 week old female. She weighed 16 lbs. How much did your puppy weigh at 8 week? Male? Female?

I didn't get my male until he was ten weeks old and he was 19.6 pounds. He was not in the best of shape, had chronic loose stool, he immediately started gaining 1/2 pound a day on better quality food then the breeder was feeding, and caught up to most puppies his age by the three month mark. Her weight now has no baring on how big she will end up....genetics will determine that.

I checked Male 16-18.

We got Axel at 9wks old & his first vet visit 2 days later he weighed 16.4. Yesterday {2wks later/11wks old} he weighed in at 22.6 when he received his 2nd round of shots

My girl weighed 10 pounds at 8 weeks and now weighs 65 pounds at 14 months.

When we got Ellie she was 6kg (about 13lbs) Shes now just over a year and weighs 34kg (approx 74lbs) So she was at the lighter end of your poll as a baby but think shes pretty big for a female now!

So, Would you say there is no corrulation between birth weight and adult weight with all else equal such as nutrition and overall health?

Only going from what I've learned on DT during the last two years, most puppies end up growing to around their parents, grandparents size, even if they were monsters as puppies. There are a few exceptions that get X-tra large, or end up smaller then average/normal. My Petey was smaller then normal (according to your chart I'd say he was less then 15 pounds at 8 weeks old) until he hit around six months old, by then he caught up and passed a lot of the other puppies here on DT that were the same age. He is now at 2 years old a slightly smaller version of his sire. Lots of bone and muscle, and standard height. My guy is right in between his sire and dams weight and height. Taller/heavier then his dam, shorter/less weight then his sire. From what I know he was the smallest of the four males in the litter when the puppies went home, and about the same size as the female. He had stomach issues that didn't get worked out until he was put on Raw at twenty weeks old, so that may be why he was smaller when a little puppy.

I think genetics plays the biggest role and if you have an experienced breeder they would have the best idea. But I don't think it's an exact science either. They will be what they will be, just love them and enjoy them! Always follow the exact recommendations of experienced breeders for nutrition, people can cause serious problems in growing dogs by not following guidelines for feeding large breed puppies.

No, I don't think there's any correlation between birth weight and adult weight. Birth weight can be highly dependent on positioning within the uterus...many puppies who are small at birth wind up larger than their littermates at maturity. In the end, dogs will live up to their genetics.

You didn't have number for me to check. Sorry! I also didn't get Louie at 8 weeks, I got him at 12. He was a VERY little guy at 16.2 pounds.

But now at 5 months he is of average weight.

No.

I have had bitch puppies in the 10lb range and males in the 13lb range that end up at standard size (close to the top). My puppy was one of the smaller ones in the litter but I think he will end up the same size as his sire.

Jordan was small up until he hit a year and then exploded. He grew until he looked like a min pin on stilts and then his body started filling out until he reached 95 pounds and has finally slowed down at 2 years. He is not at all fat or bulky even, but a large size. I notice this a lot when I see other dobermans and look at pictures of my past dobermans. He towers over Summer, dwarfing her and the others were bigger, but surely didn't dwarf her.

When we got Sasha, supposedly she was 9 weeks old and she only weighed
8lbs and was extremely wormy. I don't think she was as old as the owner stated. The owner/byb did not provide and documentation or vaccinee history for her. Based on the information from the owner, Sasha would be approximately 25 weeks old today, but all the Dobie's at our Vets office that are 6months old are much bigger than Sasha.

At 8 weeks Charlie was 19.5 lbs
at 10 weeks he was 25.9lbs

WOA! BIG growth spurt???

He is Currently 98lbs

when I took 8 week old pups in for ear cropping they ranged in weight, from 8 pounds to 14. but then my pups were smaller weights were smaller, in my first litter birth weights ranged from 8 oz to 15, they are all good healthy weights as adults (Rex is now 85 lbs), second litter was closer, all the girls were 12 oz. and the boys were 11, 14 & 15. Again, smaller to start but all are good weights as they approach a year.

I agree that it's hard to tell adult weight by puppy weights. My singleton went to live with a litter for a few weeks. He was a very very large/chunky puppy even tho I tried to limit his eating. The other litter was much smaller. As adults, they are all bigger like their parents are.

My current Vizsla was 13.5 lbs at 8 weeks and 2 of the girls were already 16 lbs. Right now all of them are 21 lbs.

When i got my male at 8 weeks he was 13.4 pounds. he looks like he is skin and bones now. i have no idea if that is normal now or if it isnt. he doesnt eat much and when he does, he only eats half his meal and then looks at me. i dont know why. i have to encourage him to eat by mixing it around a bit. he is 10 weeks now. and i havnt weighed him yet

Apollo was 11lbs at 6 weeks,9 weeks-18lbs and with 17 weeks 42lbs,in July we have to go to the vet again,then i will find out how much he weights now

My pup at 8wks was 22lbs, now that he almost 12 he is very close to 29lbs. Guess its in his blood his pops was 115lbs and momma was 96lbs
