I was just wondering if the Canidae wasn't providing enough fat or whatever else he needs to gain some weight. He doesn't look sickly thin, just very lean and muscly with his ribs clearly showing. | I can't tell alot from the pic, if you can get a profile shot that would tell alot more about him. If you run your hands down his sides can you clearly, without pressure feel his ribs? If so, he needs to gain weight.
I know people who feed Canidae and have really good luck with it, so I would not attribute it to the food. I think he's just burning alot of energy so he's lean and possibly growing extremely fast. Sometimes you have to adjust the amount of food to each individual dog, regardless of what the bag says. My boy was eating about 8 cups at that age and raw meat and he got big really, really fast.
I would try adding the hamburger or pasta. Pasta really helps dogs add weight quickly, just like people!
You may try worming him, even if you think he's got no parasites, sometimes they do and it can cause them to look skinny. I would suggest using panacur. Hope that helps and good luck! Glad to know your concerned about his weight and paying good attention to your puppy, always nice to hear!!! |

| | Lil Dog | Well, I guess I'll just try giving him more food or giving him pasta like you suggested. I do like it that he is lean for the obvious health reasons down the road, just seems a little too lean right now.
BTW...do his ears seem too large for a medium crop? They seem much bigger than I anticipated for a medium crop. Do they grow into the ears, making them look smaller as they reach their adult size? |

I think his ears fit his head well and don't look too big or too small. Best of luck! |

I've been giving him at least 4 cups total a day for the last few months and he still hasn't put on weight to make him look balanced.
I'm just wondering if its the food? Should I switch to a puppy food?
Pic of him from last week. I don't have access to a profile shot right now, but you can kinda tell how lean he is in this pic. | The picture from the front is a little hard to tell from, but he sure doesn't look thin from that angle. I wouldn't switch to a puppy food, Canadae is actually a very good food. Puppies from different lines all go through stages, that's just part of the growing process. My boy prior to Rex went through a real gangly stage at about 6 months, Rex went through his gangly stage at about 14 months. Different lines and different dogs. The food drive is a good thing!
