| That sounds really fishy. I'm glad you got your deposit back.
I'm sorry he was so rude and that you had to go through that. You'll be glad of it when you find YOUR puppy, though.
You know, breeders do have the right to be picky about who they will sell their pups to, and they should be. But that doesn't mean they have to treat you like garbage. If they thought that your current lifestyle wasn't condusive to owning a puppy, they could have told you so while still treating you with respect.
I hope you find a great puppy, soon. Don't give up on your search.

| I feel sad for you and very angry too. Of course, do not give up for this may indeed be a blessing in disguise as Michael says. I know this does you no good in the short term, but your pup will find you when the timing is right.

| How About considering rescue. There are those who may have impressed the breeders but were not ready for the reality when the pup came home.

they knew how far away i lived and still let us travel all that way to basically humiliate me. | They were rude, extremely rude. I think it really was a blessing in disguise, as others have said. You will be better off with another breeder.
So, I really want to encourage you not to give up. Keep your chin up, you did nothing wrong and with continued persistence you will eventually end up with a great dobe to love.

| I would really encourage you to look at rescue. My two dobermans came from a breeder, and while they are wonderful and I love them so, I will never buy from a breeder again. There are way way too many dobermans that are waiting for their forever home.
But, if you still want to purchase from a breeder, the posters here are dead-on. Be patient, dilligent and your puppy will find you. Trust that everything happens for it's own reason and you may not understand this until down the road.
Keep your head up! Best wishes.... |

| Hi Charlotte, so sorry to hear hear about your trauma but like others have said before me I really do think you've had a lucky escape. I got Tia from a breeder who advertised on epupz but when I get my next dobie I won't be looking on there I'm afraid (even though Tia is gorgeous and I have no complaints about her breeder) . I've heard a lot of bad stories about breeders from that site and am now much more educated, thanks to everyone on this forum, than I was when I was choosing Tia. You will find the pup/dog for you eventually even though you may feel now that its never going to happen!
Whereabouts in North Yorkshire are you - I'm in West Yorkshire, near Leeds. I'm also trying to do my homework on good breeders in the hope that I might be getting a brother for Tia in the next year or so. |

| I feel so sad for you. these breeders sound very weird. It may be for the best not to even get involved.
About 11 years ago I got involved with a breeder, I will not same the name because most every one in the northeast knows her, who had a beautiful little black girl.
I was approved and all my references checked out. Little Raina came to her new home.
No money was exchanged, I would show her to her title and give back a litter.
Little Raina was georgous but her rust markings were very faded. Lots of friends told me is was due to the crappy food she was fed at the kennel.
OK - we worked with kelp and carrots. Didn't help.
I met the breeder at a show and a handler stacked Raina. WOW, what a body.
At this point I had Raina about 6 weeks.
the following Monday the breeder phoned me to make arrangements to have Raina checked out at her vet. She said she wanted to have her mouth xrayed to make sure she had all her teeth.
OK, I met her and gave Raina back for the Vet visit.
A week went by - I called every day to see how my baby was doing.
After a week, the breeder told me she was not giving her back to me.
And she said some horrible things to a breeder friend about me which were so not true.
This other breeder friend, who I am still friends with, told me that this woman was just plain crazy.
My entire family was devasted. I happened to call Sandy Harris and told her the story.
She said give Fran Marion a call as Savannh just had a litter out of Bastque and I should go pick a puppy from the litter. Thus, my Shiloh, my heart dog found me.
I didn't know until about 9 years later the rest of the story.
While Raina was with the breeder, the litter mates and her all came down with some type of illness. They all died. Raina died in another friends arms.
Until this day, I curse that breeder.
And I was not the only person who she did that to. She is indeed crazy.
Moral of the story, they sound a bit crazy - so let it go.
I'm sure all of us at DT will help you find another puppy.

| Hi Charlotte - That was pretty outrageous and impudent behavior on the breeder's part. Not very elegant language, either - sounds like he should be breeding pigs. You will find your little girl... and she'll be perfect! Lois |
