| Purina Pro Plan This is sort of a continued post from my "Going Crazy" thread, started yesterday. I have seen over & over on here a suggestion for Pro Plan foods.
It seems a very popular choice for Dobes. But for some reason, I have a "negative reaction" to anything made by "purina". Why??? I'm not really sure.
I'm not trying to sound like a food snob, because I would certainly rather spend less, then more on dog food.
But is it really as good as everyone seems to say around here? |

| Pro Plan Salmon and Rice is very popular. Most dogs respond rather well to it, from what I hear. You should probably let your dog try it out before you make any assumptions... maybe seeing a nice, glossy coat will change your mind!

| My puppy (labmix) is doing very well on ProPlan. He came from the shelter on Science Diet, and had very loose stools. I switched him over to Innova, and he did great as far as poops and shiny coat. However, he didn't like it. He looked depressed when he ate (c'mon, it's one of the joys of a dog's day!) So, like you, I read a lot of good things about Pro Plan on here and on a lab board I am a member of. I switched him and he LOVES it. His coat and poops are still good. I don't consider it comprable to other Purina products- the ingredients are better, it's higher priced and is not carried in grocery stores (at least around here). All dogs do differently on different foods, so I think it's important to go with one that meets there needs. If you feel comfortable trying it and your dog does well on it, I say that it is fine to feed. I am no expert, these are just my experiences. |

| I switched to Pro Plan chicken and rice and my Dobes are doing better than they did on premium brand foods. |

| Pro Plan is used by probably the majority of Doberman show folks - they can't all be wrong
It is a good easily available kibble. That said, I think that there are better kibbles out there, but I personally recommend Pro Plan as a good alternative to very expensive premium kibble. If your dog does well on it, then I don't see any reason to change unless you want to.
I fed pro plan for 11 years with good results.

| I recently switched from Science Diet Nature's Best Chicken & Rice to Pro Plan Selects Salmon & Rice and I'm VERY happy with it so far. Red always had loose stools on the Science Diet - which I always just thought were from drinking scummy pond water or whatever, but his stools have been firm and normal consistency after switching to the Pro Plan. And it's kinda hard to tell with his coat being somewhat sun bleached from the sun this summer, but I think his coat looks nicer too. Red loves the Pro Plan and I am so happy I got the recommendation from this board to switch! |

| My breeder feeds Pro Plan but when I got Obie I wanted to feed him Royal Canin because I thought it was better. It wsa slightly more expensive but Obie always had loose stool. Now that he's on Pro Plan his poop is good. He liked them both the same. And Petsmart has specials on it sometimes so I get like 5 dollars off where that never happens with the royal canin. |

| I started Chi and Petri on Pro Plan Select Salmon and Rice about 3 weeks ago - so far I'm very happy with it! Chi is not nearly as gassy on it as she was when I had her on Canidae and her coat is starting to look really nice. My only complaint is that even though it's in an air tight container, my laundry room (where the dog food is stored) smells like salmon!

| I switched to Pro Plan also. Like you, I was pretty hesitant. I am not thrilled with the ingredient list.......BUT if the "proof is in the pudding".....
Here are my Pro Plan munchers...
Brownie (PP Selects Salmon and Rice)
Rommel (PP Selects Salmon and Rice)
Ziris (PP Performance)
Piper (PP Selects Salmon and Rice)
Those photos are all within the last couple of weeks.
I have been very happy with the food, and I have fed just about every super premium food on the market, and RAW.
My dogs LIKE it (hit or miss with other foods) They keep weight on (again, hit or miss with other foods) They have nice coats, and seem to be overall doing well.
