| Food Suggestions Hi~
I posted a question the other day about our 13 week old pup & fur loss. We're going to take him back to the vet for a skin scraping, just to be sure.
Our breeder thinks it might be allergies to his food. Shes a good breeder--this dog comes from all champions--her girls are gorgeous. But i've thought there was something up with this little guys fur, since the day we picked him up. He has always been very "downy"--like an outer coat--& the vet thinks hes just losing that--but it doesn't seem like much is coming in under it to me.
Anyway--my actual question Is for good food suggestions. (i know every dog is different) just curious what you have had good success with? He is currently on Canidae ALS & I understand they just changed formula's. (which i'm not thrilled to hear) I was thinking of trying a lamb & rice formula--our 13yr. dobe has been on that his whole life, because of skin probs. he had very young. But would like to hear other opinions.
thanks |

thanks | I am by NO means an expert, but switching foods sounds like a pretty good idea. You don't have much to lose since Canidae changed their formula anyway.
Switching to a lamb or fish based food would be idea to rule out chicken as the culprit.
I don't have my pup yet, but I've heard good things on this board about Pro Plan and Blue Buffalo.
We're going to put our pup on Blue Buffalo Large breed when we get her in a few weeks.

| It's different from dog to dog but I have my two on RAW/Orijen.
Suri had thin hair as a puppy and she was checked for thyroid and everything was ok. I changed her food from Canidae to Orijen Fresh Fish/RAW and she looks amazing. And has really small poops.
Good luck! |

| Some pups do have a drier coat, which normally improves when they shed out the puppy coat. My rescue girl came to me with a very dry, rough, patchy red coat. I put her on Pro Plan Salmon and rice, which I feed to all my dogs {my Pitty Pearl had horrible skin allergies, but does great on the pro plan too}. It has been 2 months now since Koko came to live with me and her dry coat is now starting to shed off and a new shiney red coat is comming in!!
But If your pups coat does not improve as he gets older I would suggest you have his Thyroid level checked. |

| I am feeding Pro Plan and I am happy with it. I have fed just about everything under the sun. I have Piper, Rommel & Brownie on Pro Plan Selects Salmon & Rice. Ziris eats Pro Plan Performance, and Chomp the 9 week old pupper eats Pro Plan Chicken and Rice (only because that is what he was weaned on) When he turns 3-4 months old I will switch him to either Performance or the Salmon and Rice.

| | Alpha | I have my dogs (Silence my dobie, and Braxton my Malinois) on Orijen. I love this food and it has fixed many skin/dandruff problems
I switch the formulas from regular adult, to puppy, to the six fish formula. Another reason I like this food is that it is made by Orijen company
whereas foods such as Timberwolf, Innova, Evo, ect is now made by Diamond foods, which I am not fond of. |

| I think Orijen is a very good food. If I ever switch from Pro Plan, Orijen is what I will go back to.
Also, I dont think Diamond manufactures any Innova/EVO/California Natural products.
