Our first dog: Debbie!

Hello everybody! I'm new here in this forum. We've just acquired an adorable female dobie pup, whom we named Debbie. I have attached some pics of Debbie.

I have one concern, though. For the last two pics, I've encircled what seems to be white "spots" on Debbie's legs. Maybe these spots are skin areas where there is no hair, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea what these are and how to "remove" them or have hair grow over them? My breeder friend (not the one who sold me Debbie, he's a friend of the breeder who owned Debbie) told me that these are just normal and will be gone after a while. He recommended putting petroleum jelly over the spots. Is he right?

Please advise. Thanks! Great site!

Thakoon is 12 weeks old and has a couple of small "bald" spots on his back legs, probably from rippin' it up with his litter mates in the yard at his breeder's house, or sleeping in blanketless crates for awhile. I think it will grow back.

It's probably the same thing for Debbie. Start her off on old towels for bedding that are easy to wash in the laundry if she soils them. And don't forget to saturate a stain with Nature's Miracle first, to pull out the odor. Once Debbie understands that it's in her best interest to keep her bed clean, you can upgrade her to some nice soft bedding and I bet her hair will grow back on these spots.

She's really cute! Thanks for the pictures, and welcome to the forum

The way they are perfectly round make me wonder if it is ringworm. If they don't get better or she gets another spot I would take her to vet.

I'm agreeing with that one! Also, don't be doing the vaseline until you know what it is. If it's not ringworm see if you can get some "Micro-Ban", a gel that pretty much heals anything skin related ;-) Big welcome to you and congrats on getting the best breed ever! She's an adoriDobe!

Oh geessss you didn`t have to name her after me!!! But thanks!!!! lol...

seriously I never knew a dobe named Debbie. I LOVE IT!!! Shes precious, to be honest you should really take her to the vet for a check up. Just to be on the safe side. Then you can ask about the elbow areas. Its only for a wellness check up and it wouldn`t cost that much.

She should never ever lie on wire ever! For that size cage you can use beech towels or a number of old bath towels if you don`t have a blanket. But her boney elbows should never be on wire or a hard surface. shes being forced to lay on that surface. its different if they come into the kitchen and lay down for a bit. but stuck in the cage she has no choice.

Welcome to Dt from Jacksonville Florida!

I would certainly give Debbie something soft to lay on. If it isnt ringworm...I hope...then it is probably from laying on hard surfaces.

We love pictures round here so the more the better. Let us know how these wounds progress.

looks like bites from puppy play or a adult to me.....is that a parrot cage you have her in? she should have a dog crate.....or section off a spot for her.....but I dont think it is good to keep her in a bird cage

she looks to be a sweet little girl

I was wondering about that cage myself. As far as the spots, I agree to take her into the vet, if it is a fungus you want to treat it asap before it spreads.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! Debbie turned exactly 2 months old last June 29. She was already dewormed twice when she was with her original owner. She's scheduled to be dewormed again this weekend. So I hope that if those white "spots" are caused by ringworms, they would be treated and not go worse when Debbie gets dewormed again.

I'm not really sure if Debbie's current cage is a bird cage, my breeder friend just lent it to me while Debbie's large cage was being built. Now that it is, I will return that "bird cage" to my friend and introduce Debbie to her new cage.

Yeah, I may have to have Debbie lie in a nice soft towel to get her all comfy. But my problem is, as all puppies are, Debbie likes to wander off to other parts of the house and chew on a lot of things! Is it ok if I tie her up so she won't leave her soft bedding?

Once again, thanks for the welcome. We decided to name her "Debbie" because we kinda like the sound of her possible monicker: "Debbie the/our dobie".

By the way, I'm from the Philippines.

Ringworm is not truly a "worm", but rather a fungal infection of the skin, so the deworming will do nothing for it.
I suspect it may be from lying on wire grate surfaces, but the other common cause of small skin lesions in young dogs is a parasite (mange mite) called demodex.
I would recommend having your vet check her out.
You can also search on here - there is a lot of info on puppy care.
Good luck w/ your new pup.
