| what Scoob said. You might also consider something like monthly Sentinel in addition. The Frontline kills the fleas and the Sentinel makes any eggs laid by fleas that sucked the blood unable to hatch. The two pronged approach might not be a bad idea - flea infestations are a pain in the arse and once the little buggers start laying eggs and they start hatching.. it becomes a viscious cycle.
oops - OP topic was ticks, sorry, I was thinking fleas. Frontline should still work.

| I agree with the above. If you find one already burrowed in your pup, heat up a little vaseline in the microwave for a few seconds, just warm. Then cover the are over the thick with the vaseline. The tick won't be able to breath and will back itself out. |

oops - OP topic was ticks, sorry, I was thinking fleas. Frontline should still work. | The ingredient in Sentinel that prevents flea eggs from hatching (lufenuron) would be overkill so to speak as Frontline Plus kills ticks, fleas, flea eggs and flea larvae. So save your money and just use the plain interceptor (which is the sentinel w/o the lufenuron).... or heartgard plus or whatever generic heartworm/intestinal parasite preventative you choose with the frontline plus. FrontlineŽ - Kill 98-100% of fleas and ticks
Also, just a note about lufenuron (which is also sold separately as "Program") - it is only effective at preventing flea infestations if ALL of the pets in the household are on it.
I have used Frontline Plus on my dogs as it is one tick preventative that is safe to use on/around cats. Most of the others have amitraz or permethrins which are toxic to cats. Just a note Frontline Plus should NOT be used on rabbits.

| This might sound weird and a little perverted but someone told me to rub the tic on the ass end in a gentle circular motion...I guess this is a "no feeling" to them and they back right out. Haven't done it myself, no tics here, sounds like it'd be fun to try tho.

| I use frontline also, we live in an area with ticks too. I usually pull them out with tweezers if embedded in skin. It's a talent you may develop, just make sure you get the head out and apply hydrogen peroxide. |

| Here in Oklahoma they already had one 14 year old boy die from a Tick disease. Wear gloves or make sure you do not squash tick with your fingers.Wash hands super well.I use Front line Plus but may have to go to Bio Spot in the future because of prices going up & up. |

| We've used Advantage religiously since it first came out - I can't thank whoever came up with these wonderful products enough! They have made SUCH a difference in our lives, and our pets'... we haven't even seen a flea or tick in over 10 or 12 years, at least!! And, years ago, we had a dog who was so allergic to fleas that, ultimately, after years of trying everything from steroids to medicated shampoos and powders, to herbals and garlic collars, he was so anemic, and had lost his poor mind from the agony, and we were forced to put him down. That felt like a huge, guilty failure to me. sigh.
But if you really put a big juicy cotton swab of alcohol all over the tick and the skin where it's burrowed, then cover it completely with a glob of vaseline, and just wait a little while, it'll dislodge itself, and then, well, they used to hold them over matches, to kill them, but i guess you could drop it in some alcohol, or stamp the little bastard... once you start using one of the really good monthly topicals, you'll never seem them again. DON'T try to go on the cheap, and buy an OTC knock-off... they don't work. But there are good websites where you can buy the prescription stuff much cheaper than at the vet's office. That's what we do. Lois |
