| How much should a 5 month old Doberman male weigh? Trooper weighs 45 pounds at 5 months. Is this the correct size?
Also, he won't stay outside and play. He jumps on the door. We've tried telling him, "No!", but it doesn't even phase him. Y'all have any ideas?

| Someone else will chime in with the weight issue...but that sounds normal to me. About the jumping on the door issue...are you inside and you want him to play outside? If you're inside, he's going to want to be inside with you. You'll have to go out there and play with him LOL!

| ^^True.
I also wanted to mention that he is 24" at the shoulder. Is this correct for his age? His dad, Wolfgang Maximillian Fox, is a Finnish imported Doberman that weighs around 100 pounds and stands 28" at the shoulder.
Do y'all think Trooper will get that big? (I'd like him to be that big. It's not a negative thing.)
We have him on "Nutro Controlled Growth Formula" puppy food. It's supposed to make the growing process a little bit longer so that the dog's bones can get strong enough to support the weight. It's a good food, and I'd recommend it thoroughly. It's all natural, with no by-products in it.

| | Big Dog | i agree that if you want him to play outside you will have to go out there with him, however i dont think this means you should tolerate him jumping up on the door.
i have trained calvin to stop jumping at the door (it DESTROYS screen doors VERY FAST lol). doesnt mean he doesnt sit at the door sometimes wishing i would come play (if i leave him for very long), but he knows not to jump up and demand to be let in. i got lucky and got a sun addict, he will go sunbathe by himself for hours at a time and be totally content haha |

| My two will go outside alone for about five minutes then come running in to see why I'm not with them. As long as I am out there they will play with each other or with me. If they are distracted I sneek away and about a minute latter they are on the hunt to find me. My male is Velcro, my female is super glue !!!! Has to be in physical contact as much as possible. Stay outside alone----- NO WAY

| Haha, that's what I figured. It's just that sometimes I'd like to have a little break.
By the way, we keep him in a 5X8 fence in the garage, with fans blowing on him, of course. I'd like to bring him inside, because we want him to be an "inside" dog. How do we get him to CALM DOWN inside? He won't stop jumping on the furniture or running 90 to nothing for anything. I've tried "NO!", and "TROOPER", but they do not phase him.
We will be getting him trained soon, so maybe that will calm him down??? I hope.

| At five months he is still going to want to be where you are. Maybe have someone go out with him on a lead and when he tries to jump up on the door do a correction, or better yet try and train him to sit when he wants something, whether it's to come inside or asking for a treat. Getting a pup to sit in a calm, firm voice also helps to calm him down and focus his attention on you and distract him from doing whatever it is he wanted to do. |
