One simple rule - he gets nothing until he sits quietly. I start that when they're very young and by 5 months, is not an issue. Can't imagine having to start now, lol. If he's alone in the garage a lot, is no wonder he wants your attention every chance he gets. Back to that velcro dog thing. I'd suggest you get into some one on one obedience training - YOU and the dog, not someone else doing it. Best way to bond and get control. You just have to be consistent and not give in to his leaping about. When he calms down, he's rewarded. At his age, will take a while, but definitely worth it. They can drive you nuts, but there's no better breed in the world. Good luck!

By the way, we keep him in a 5X8 fence in the garage, with fans blowing on him, of course. I'd like to bring him inside, because we want him to be an "inside" dog. How do we get him to CALM DOWN inside? He won't stop jumping on the furniture or running 90 to nothing for anything. I've tried "NO!", and "TROOPER", but they do not phase him.

We will be getting him trained soon, so maybe that will calm him down??? I hope.
IMO....let him in if you want a inside dog (which any Dobe should be)...Right now if coming in is unusual...then he's gonna get excited. When it becomes the norm...then it will be just like anything else. Plus he's a pup and a high energy breed so some bouncing off the walls is to be expected...just relax and focus on bigger things...you'll do fine. -Our 3.5 month old has always been inside....he just comes in and jumps on the couch...my 2.5 yr. old daughter gets him a "chewy" and all is well....until the cat comes in the room...ha! Of course he's a sun-bather too.

Dobes are people dogs. I go outside with my Dobe for a walk and at his pee and poop times. Dobes don't like being out alone. They are a member of your family, part of your pack. They must be included in your family activity. When you need to go to town or shower, etc., the dog can be crated for short periods of time.

Training helps too. If he bites you in heavey playing outside offleash, use a shock collar.

Definitely bring him inside with you, they need to be with their people. He will probably be a little wild at first, since he'll be so excited. But with lots of exercise, puppy play time, socialization, and training he'll be a well mannered dude! I would definitely recommend training classes for both of you....they are really fun and will increase the bond between you two.
