My husband has been responsible for teaching the boys "to sing". In the kitchen, in the morning he starts with "wow, wow, woooow", telss them "sing". Before long, they start to make silly noises and we say "yea, sing"! My husband goes from high to lower wows, and the dogs try to imitate his crazy wows. Before you know, they "sing", and of course they get a cookie for "good singing".
I have nothing to do with this, it is his thing, and he teaches them well. Good pappa dog my husband.

I'm thinking... hm... just standard tricks, nothing unusual.... then I remembered what we do almost every morning. He gets up and HAS to look at the good looking dobie in the mirror. I usually just say "Are you looking at that beautiful boy?" He just wags and then can tear himself away from the handsome boy in Wonderland.

I just tried teaching "paw" (i.e. shake hands) yesterday and he has now already done it on command! that was an easy trick.

"over" wasn't that easy, though, but he's good with it now. I want a complete "roll" which I will start working on, and we are also teaching him "backwards" (i.e. walk backwards, it's so cute and hilarious!)

oh, and my guy went ahead and taught moonshine a trick I would NEVER dream of teaching: "up!". omg!! well, it is too late. my guy would stick his forearm out and say "up!" and moonshine would jump and place both his front legs on my guy's arm.

I think the ultimate trick (IMO) is to retrieve things for me. I just point at something and moonshine retrieve. I think chihiro (a mod's dobe) has mastered that. WOW!!

The only tricks Vanna knows right now are "shake" and "touch". She also knows how to open the door to her crate. Adriel knows those things too and will pick objects up/bring them most of them time.

One of my Dachshunds, Scarlett, has a much larger bag of tricks though.
In addition to all the basic commands, she knows:
kiss
shake (right hand=left paw and vice versa)
bang!
spin
over/leapfrog (she jumps sideways over her brother)
roll over
speak
back up
stretch (basically a "stand")
sit up
gimme five! (high five)
wave
get it/bring it
opens the door/unlatches her crate/or unzips the soft crate from the outside
closes the door
touch it
push it
tunnel (for going under things)
find it
hold it/carry it/take it to ____ ( whoever I point to)
get the leash (retrieves it/will walk another dog for me)
and she will "save" someone in the pool

At this point she retrieves anything she can carry, which is wonderful hehe. She recognizes "changer", "bone", "phone", "pen/pencil", "toy", and "book" as separate objects.
Some of the commands are combined into one for a specific task like "Turn on/off the TV" (opens the cabinet doors, pushes "on" button until it turns on, finds and brings the changer). "Get the bowls" means retrieve and stack them according to size, and "Say Hi" is a combo of sit up, wave, and speak.
We have conversations too- "Tell me!","Say it!", "Really?" and other questions all result in a woof or whine. Boredom or lack of attention result in a run through of almost all of them, especially if I'm working with another dog. She's a fun little booger.

I had started working on bang you dead but i lost interest lol.
She does shake, high five, wave spin, leave it, on and sometimes she will "flap her ears like a bat" it is a whole conversation we have i say to her of course in a soft fun voice, "are you a bat? Do you flap your ears cuz your a bat do you flap your ears like a bat?!?!?!" and she starts flapping her ears lol that one is funny. Nothing hugely entertaining.
My hound does "show me" he will point with his paws at what he wants it really is a bad thing to teach, my mom has scratched on the "treat drawer"

Junebug i dont think i can do half those things. WOW. I was so proud last fri night when Bonnie was with the puppy trainer she sat, down and stayed perfect. The only one she really knows is sit but she pulled it off on the first try like she has been training for years. Of course it was a one time performance for the class. lol

Sentry is 6 mos and she does:

Sit
Stay (up to 2 minutes so far "OK" is the only release...)
Touch
Down
Up
Kiss
Shake
Heel

We're working on mastering those in public still....she does em great at home.

Haha I never thought she could either. I had read that teaching tricks helps build confidence so I taught her a couple simple ones and it just snowballed. The more she learned, the more she wanted to please so the more I had to think of creative/useful things for her to do.

Awww, what a good baby you have! I love it when they have a "click" moment and do exactly what you want, gives me hope...LOL

My friends dogs all do a trick that gets a lot of laughs.. They "Pose for Playboy/Playgirl" in which they roll onto their sides and spread their legs out. My dobe is a minor and wont be doing such things until she is an adult.
