Unhappy Breakout

Well the last couple of days I noticed that Nino was getting some bumps on his chest and under his front legs with a little puss in them. I thought maybe he got into an ant bed. As those bumps heal and scab up, it is removing his hair. I now spot a couple on the side of his body. Does anyone have a clue what this could be? I am not sure what Hives look like, but heard about them. Could it be his food or is it really something biting him?

What do you feed first of all? Does it look like bumps?

I am feeding him Nutro. He was doing fine on the Nutro. He loves it. I can't really tell whether the bumps are coming or going though. When I see them, they are already scabbed up most of the time. Real dry and removing hair in that spot.

Roxy also gets these once in a while except hers are only on the belly. My other dobe got these on the botton of her chin. At that time it was puppy acne. How old is Nino? I usually take my in to see the vet. He can scrap them and look uder a micoscope to vertify. Good Luck,

I doubt it's the food. Sounds like a typcical staph/bacteria thing - kinda doggy acne. If you get a big breakout, sometimes antibiotics are called for. Puppies/younger dogs might be more susceptible due to weaker immune systems. If bad enough, you might need antibiotics. You might also try a shampoo like Etiderm during the breakout.

Nino is 17 weeks old. They kind of look more like pimples when they are not dried out. Could it be a Staphe infection?

My IG had those a couple months ago and the vet said it's most likely a staph infection (not a big deal). Sometimes they go away on their own, sometimes they don't so they need to be put on some kind of anitbotics and it usually then clears up right away. My IG's ended up clearing up after a few weeks of those pus-like pimples so I didn't have to take him in or put him on meds. But if it doesn't clear up, it'll easily be cured. Don't worry too much about, if it keeps up after a couple weeks or gets worse I would take him in just to get it taken care of. :-) It's more common in puppies...but adult dogs can get them too.

My Mia had a BAD breakout when she was younger and we had to rush her to the vet. It looked like she had bigger sized white pimples ALL over her body. They had to give her meds and then we had her on 25mg benadryl for a couple of weeks. It went away.

She has VERY sensitive skin and was having a allergic reaction to the food that she was eating. We have had to change her food about 6 times and now we are feeding her raw. She was doing REALLY good on the Natural Balance Duck and Potatoe food. It is supposed to be for dogs with sensitive stomachs and skin. We now have a special shampoo for her and she takes 2 fish oil capsules per day.
I would take him to the vet just to make sure but it is usually nothing that can not be solved easily. I was freaking out though cause it looked like she had HUGE bug bites all over her body! MY POOR BABY was what I was thinking!

zeus had this under his chin.. we had to get tablets to clear it up and it took a while.
the vet said that it took longer to clear up as we waited to see if it would go away on its own and tablets earlier would of cleared it up quicker !!

id go to the vets !! good luck

Staph is common in dobe puppies due to their immune system not being fully developed yet. However; peristent staph infections are a sign of allergic reactions, possibly to an ingredient in the food you are feeding or something in the invironment or both.
Also another sign is chewing on his feet and itching in general.
