Ear Crop Question

Maya is 14 weeks.

Her ears are VERY "perky"... she's always raising and lowering them.
I bought her from a "breeder" who was an idiot and told me that I could get her cropped between 5 and 6 MONTHS!

I am taking her in tomorrow for a last-ditch evaluation to see if she is game for a crop at 14 weeks. Has anyone EVER had a successful crop at this age? If so, are there special considerations for the after care?

I could use some last-minute, emergency opinions.

I REALLY want her cropped... but I will NOT do it if she's too far gone.

Advice?
Lou

Another reason most vets wont crop a pup after 12 weeks is mainly because that is about the same time they have figured out how to use there hind legs to scratch at there ears and this is turn makes healing time unpredictable if not virtually impossable. the ear cartilige hasent set yet and 14 weeks isnt to late but getting very close. Some Vets will still crop your dogs ears for you at this age but the longer you wait the fewer Vets that are willing to do this will seriously decrease. But with a ton of dilligence your dobes ears should stand. but remember at 14 weeks your dog is not going to leave his ears alone during the 10 days it will take for the scabs to heal and also at 14 weeks it will probably take longer then 10 days to heal as your dog will probably tear the raw ear open more then once meaning you get to start all over again. With no guarentees that the ears will ever stand.

Depends on a number of things... the dog's ear tissue, overall health, style and length of crop, and your ability to post ears. There is more risk of complication cropping an older dog obviously

Good Point i would definatly stay away from a "show crop" for sure and stick with a medium crop with less bell
