Have any of you tried Science Diet with your Dobies? Thats what we feed our dogs (Shih Tzu's) and it seems to be a really good food.

It isn't the best food

You can also go to Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble and look under 1 star foods. Read the ingredients in the food to get more information.

I don't feed puppy food to Doberman puppies. Just high quality adult or all stages food.

Interesting....

the review for Nutro Natural Choice lamb anf Rice is HERE

And the review for Pro Plan selects Salmon and Brown Rice is HERE

Does seem like they like either food. Both have a 2 Star rating. I wonder if I should look into Innova foods or something similar.

One of my Clients is a pet food distributor (organic only) and I might be able to setup an account with them....hmmmm.

Yeah, I have seen the cost to the retailer on the order forms...cost to the consumer has to be 30+% higher than I am paying for Nutro (Retail) but if I don't need to add fish oil caplets to his food everyday then the difference becomes a little less... Not that I have to give him fish oil, Sabre's coat asn skin were pretty good a little dry maybe but not bad.

I hope I did not come off too harsh on my last post...I was just wondering if two foods are rated at 2 stars why one would be better than the other?

Great info in here!

Over the years it seems Dobes have trouble on Nutro for some reason. This is the reason I will never feed Nutro, even though one of the Nutro formulas does seem to have better ingredients that the other. They are all made by the same company. Nutro also found in melamine in their foods in did take place in the dog food recall Recently, last year, Nutro was bought out by a huge conglomerate, Mars Inc. who also produces snack foods like many different brands of candy bars, and some the lower quality pet foods brands such is Sheba, Cesar, Whiskers, and Pedigree. That is just more of a reason I will never feed that food.

The issue with higher quality foods is that you feed less, it has higher digestibility, which means less stools and less smells, etc. breath is better, coat is better, weight is better, etc. If you are interested in learning about feeding better foods and like to research here are some links that might be of interest to you.
These books are must reads, and are so popular I have found them at the library
Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats.

So he'll have less shall we say....gas on Pro Plan or Innova? LOL! (Sorry for the off color content)

I had not really considered the fact that I would be able to feed a smaller amount of the more expensive food. Interesting. I will have to talk to my client about the benefits.

Thanks again,

Chris

Depends, there is not only one food that works best for all dogs. But it sure would be nice if that were the case! They are different in what works best.
Not getting too much in depth I feed two different foods at my house for 3 dogs, 2 of which are the same breed, each eats a different diet. Another high quality brand for the kitty. So at my house there are 3 brands of very high quality food, each one is the brand that particular animal does great on.

I don't feed puppy food to Dobe puppies. Many people I know don't feed a puppy food to Doberman puppies and if they do they switch the puppy off that food early, around 4 months. Pano is a real cause for concern in this breed, you don't want to stress the joints and have Dobe puppies put on the weight too quickly when growing.
At my house right now are several brands for different dogs, I have TOTW, Eagle Pack, and Innova. I feed a homecooked fresh diet and do also feed kibble in conjunction; I rotate between high quality kibbles and will change about once a year. One dog I don't feed the homecooked diet to as that dog has allergies and issues so less is more.
