Thanks for the responses....... I went to 4 stores today and looked for the Canidae - found it at one (that I did not visit) but looked on line.
I think she is feeding the Pro Plan (which I saw in many stores) and I guess maybe I'll stick with that.
He weighed 18lbs at 9 weeks so i don't think his weight will be an issue.

I want healthy and a good coat. I think food and diet has a lot to do with that.

I personally like Pro Plan better than Canidae. The dogs I knew on Canidae had trouble keeping enough weight on. There coats looked no better than my Pro Plan dogs (who have beautiful coats)

diamond will become famous soon enough
My puppy was on pro plan and doing very well. I switched to Canidae ALS after reading how good it was and how many people on this forum liked it. My puppy has been on it for a couple of weeks and seems to really like it. Cannot comment on if it is better than pro plan at this point. I think it is good to switch foods every so often (6 mo) to give some nutritional variety in their diet.

Interesting....

I fed Sabre Nutro Lamb and Rice as recommended by his breeder. Sounds like Nutro is not a preferred food around these parts.

I have to admit I was a little surprised to hear some of you don't feed puppy food to dobie pups. Is there a rule of thumb to decide weather or not to feed puppy food or adult food? I plan to keep searching....I'm sure it's here somewhere!

Thanks,

Chris

Can you explain why you feel the fish is better? I would really like to know more about this. I could see the fish based being better for the skin and coat. Yes?

Thanks

I usually switch mine to adult at about 4 months. Some people never feed puppy food at all though.

the theory is that in the wild a dog (a carnivor but oportunist) would never get "puppy food"..that the pups would just eat more..hence the all life stages "als" style foods. Thats one theory I read...Also in my opionion if you look at one of the often mentioned Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble (i think thats the right one..i have many stored)...you'll see that if you search say Canidae you'll get a couple versions of their food. Then search Nutro...the variations of food they have is huge...to me that says "we're more interested in reaching any and all markets for sales purposes. I'm interested in studying up on "raw diet" a bit. All my opionion- but ask my wife...I'm usually wrong. Ha!
-also I have heard complaints on here about the "expertiese" of the food analysis people- or lack there of.
-and I'm sorry for picking on nutro...it may be great for some...i just feel i had a bad experience with them.
-another note; you'll proably never get a diffinitive awnser...it will be a best judgement and then trial and error....good luck.
