"Fighting" with pitbulls... + PIC

So a friend of mine from work brought his pitbull (11mos.) to a job site where my 5mos dobe was. It was at a park and I had Sentry off her leash. The friend let their dog off the leash...they sniffed eachother...then they started rough play. The pitbull was definately "stronger" at first...but Sentry wouldnt back down...so they kept playing (tails waggin mind you...) for over an hour like that. No growling, no hard biting...Sentry got taken down many times before she started using her front hands.... She would take her hands and wrap them around the dogs neck then push, flipping the pitt on its back every time lol.

After they "fought" they ended up sitting in one of the trucks together, eating and drinking out of the same dish, and basically hung out together the rest of the day.

Do you let your dog rough play with other dogs? Its normal right? They werent being mean to eachother...though a little blood was drawn from the pitbull's neck by my dobe...

Our pup is still pretty young but he likes to get pretty rough with our 3 year old boxer...the boxer still isnt really taking him seriously so a lot of romping takes place and the boxer usually runs out of energy and falls asleep with a little dobe chewing on her head. Noone ever gets angry or upset, I think as long as both dogs are stable and have decent temperaments then they can get as rough as they want and know each others limits, just like two people play fighting.

I'm sure there are 'Bad' pitbulls out there but I've got friends that have the 'Good' ones. Some of our pup's best friends are Pits... they have a ton of fun together.

There is definitly a difference between rough housing and fighting and i think in your situation it was just play. My Dobes play so rough i'm always worried one is going to get hurt but neither of them ever have so much as a scratch.

I don't let my dog play rough with another one because I'm afraid he might hurt the other dog or get hurt.
Specially if the other one is smaller dog.
My dog easily go into fight so better be safe than sorry.

Most of my friends have only smaller dogs. Even though my Beto is still just a pup, I don't know if I'd want to let him play rough with them. Now when he gets older and if I find a larger dog pal I trust at the dog park, then maybe. That's still a long way off, though.

I would never forgive myself if Gunner played dobe style on a smaller dog.

Gunner gets along great with other larger breed dogs. Their style of play seems to have a lot of teeth flashing, running, chasing, body checking and on and on. One doberslap with his paws would be the end of a smaller dog. I think the smallest sized dog I feel comfortable with around him is a sheltie. Maybe once he's older and out of the puppy mode I'll be more confident, but only time will tell.

As far as the pit having blood on it's neck, I'd hazard a guess that it was either an accident or she hasn't gotten complete control of her bite inhibition and there's nothing like another dog to tell them when they've gone too far, so I hope the pit told her off.
