puppy classes

I know several of us have pups around the same age. so what are your plans for puppy school? have you signed up for class yet? any ideas on what you want to train?

I have been looking around and my closest recomended training center is a hours drive away. they offer 2 days of trainning a week for 260.00 a year.but they do the working dog training........so I think I may have to try to do something over just obedience. like tracking and search and rescue? I really am not sure yet.I will drive down to the training center on saturday to have a look see on how things go there. they want me to bring little zeus along too. should be a fun day!

My plans are to train for competitive obedience. So right now I am looking for a school that has instructors that have are accomplished in obedience. I found one school that has alot of trainers with their OTCH, so I think I am going to go with them.

Here's how their classes are set up.
Campaign Dog Academy

Its in a group environment, which should be good for socialization, which is a big plus for me, over a private trainer. I think the important thing is to find a school that has qualified instructors, who use methods that you are comfortable with. I haven't signed up for classes yet, since I won't be getting the pup till August.

obedience is fun! I really enjoyed showing my last doberman in it. he was always the quickest to learn.I think we made all the others pups and owners jelouse

this time I think I want to do more....I thought maybe agility.... but then I also think tracking is cool.I am not sure what I want to do! so I guess I will start with obedience and toss in a few other classes to see what zeus enjoy's.... then go from there.I just wish the training places where closer

With Thakoon, I plan to do it all! Conformation, obedience, agility, and possibly tracking. And our local obedience club does a therapy dog volunteer program also. I know I'm going to need to keep this boy busy!

I could go conformation....but I myslef prefer brains over beauty lol! his ped is filled with champions and a few working titles too.I already know he is beautiful so I guess I just want to show off his brains.that and I had so much fun with obedience so many years ago. I really enjoy haveing a well behaved dog.

then I thought why not provide a benifit from all the training.sounds like fun!

I do have a problem though....the sat class starts at 9am. my husband works sat.......so I have nobody to sit with my little girls ages 4 and 7. then the thursday class is 6pm so I would have to get going at 5pm and my husband gets home at 6pm.....so there is a hour of no child care.

so for now my plan will be to hire a sitter for every other sat....and a hour on every other thurs. that would give me one day of training a week at the center.....then I can work all week at home with him.I will drive down tomorrow.I am excited to see the dogs working....although it is all GSD's lol! poor zeus will be the oddball

Broheim will become famous soon enough
I'm just starting off with PetSmart puppy classes at the end of this month when the pup is ~12weeks. Beyond that I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I'm leaning towards finding a more advanced class at some point, but haven't looked around. My breeder recommended a training site that I'm going to look into though.

I just want an obedient happy dog. Not very interested in any competition stuff.

Apollo will do basic, intermediate and advanced obedience classes with the same trainer that helped us when we got Athena.

From there, I am not too sure. the same place offers tracking, agility, therapy dog, etc...

I am thinking I might go the therapy dog route. I want to help change the impression people have about Dobes and I figured if he is hanging out at a hospital with kids or the elderly it's kind of hard to view him as an "attack dog", you know?

In the end I will probably see what he enjoys most, as the advanced obedience class incorporate a little bit of everything!

I agree with broheim i would be really happy if mine are happy and obediant but it would be pretty cool to go beyond that. The few more advanced classes i looked into are really bad times i need things more on the weekend. if any one knows good classes for s&r or agility in miami let me know. thanks every one
