More confident on the leash

I've been doing quite a bit of leash training w/ our 4 month old male and I noticed how he becomes so much more confident once I put him on the leash. It's almost like he transforms into a completely different pup. At first I thought it was my imagination but there is an immediate change in his body posture, the way he carries his head (up & proud) and his tail sticks straight up & is very rigid. I believe the leash is somewhat of a security blanket to him, something along the lines of holding the hand of a small child, it lets them know you are right there. Have any of you experienced this with your pups/dogs? I would be interested to hear about it or any other thoughts on this you may have. Thanks!

Yes, I think that is very common in a lot of dogs. I actually am training Cher's obedience without a leash for now.
