Car ride home

Hi everyone.

I'm bringing Thakoon home in 12 days. It's not a long drive by any means, about 40-45 minutes. He will be crated.

Does anyone have suggestions for a chew treat or toy for the ride home? A stuffed Kong? A short Bully Stick? A Nylabone? Ehem.. I already have all of the above on hand.... well sort of, the Kong isn't stuffed yet.

Or should I not give him anything?

We gave Vader a stuffie. Ha had a shark with a sqeaker. He was fine with that. He'd squeak for a bit then fall asleep. Luckily he didn't/doesn't get car sick!

I had a hour and a half drive home.... he spent it on my lap lol!

I'd be afraid to give him anything if he was in a crate and I couldn't see what he was doing...just in case he choked or something.

Apollo did fine with just a small pad to lay on.

My pup likes a small Kong Wubba in his travel crate. It squeaks and has several tough nylon "tentacles" that he can chew during the ride.

I read somewhere that the only time the pup should be allowed to ride up front in your lap is on their very first car ride home

I mean, it can be a scary thing for pups and you wouldn't want the first experience to be a less-than-good one!

We had a 45 minute drive home from Red's breeder, and he spent the whole way in hubby's lap in the passenger seat and on the passenger seat floorboard at his feet where he slept for the second half of the ride.

lexx spent the 2 hour drive home on my lap in a fleece blankie. no way was i putting that little puppy down for even a second once i had him in my arms!
