What is the best age

to start leash training, my girls are 8 weeks, we go out front and the follow me only wandering a little bit away to do their business (we've started housebreaking already) and then come right back over to me. But I would be more more comfy. if they could be on a leash. Carly sits when I put the leash on and won't budge, & Tosca will walk, but it's on her terms and the leash can't go tight at all. I don't want to like strangle them with the leash, it's suppose to keep them safe. Should I hold off a couple weeks? They will allow the leash to drag behind them, it's not until you pick it up that they do the behaviors I said above.

sounds like normal puppy behaviour to me! You just have to take it REALLY slow, getting them to drag it around is a great start, then hold it, but don't try to direct them, go wherever they want. Eventually start using treats and praise to make them follow you ( don't PULL them), they'll get it, they are only babies!

That's what I figured, I don't pull it, but I don't want them to learn that momma will follow them either, I've done the treat thing, Tosca has caught on, Now if my son(16 months) picks up the leash they don't care.. brats!
