| Knuckle Bones Ok, I got my mad chewer a few knuckle bones and boy do those things stink. We have a large home and I can smell those stinky little rascals from a ways off. They do a GREAT job of keeping his attention on them and stops him from chewing other stuff but they get all over the place both in and out of the crate and stink to high heavens. Am I not buying the right kind? |

| They are for the most part stinky. I used to give our boy these on rare occasion when I would sit outside with him on our lawn. Be careful as I had Jack choke a few times so do supervise when they eat these as well as pig ears. If he had them inside the house, I would put a large old blanket and have him stay on it as he munched. The grease is horrible and unless you open up your house, not much you can do even if you clean with soap and water. |

| Have you tried Kongs filled with treats? Jack's favorite was a treat cube that I would put kibble into and let him roll to his heart's delight. Noisy, but it kept him occupied and not messy unless he missed a kibble and we stept on it. |

I have filled them with everything from peanut butter to treats to kibbles to the flavored foam made for the Kongs. They make REAL quick work of them and then it's back to chewing on some various household ammenity. The knuckles take them at least 2 days of chewing.
I like the Kong idea but they just never last very long. |

FYI My monster chewer chewed the big black kong filled with peanut butter in under 15 min. I meant he chewed up the kong and contents!!!!

| BAT,
I get the smoked ones and they are not very greasy and don't smell as bad. I agree, the fresh ones are pretty stinky. But, they do the job and my furniture doesn't get chewed up anymore.
PS: You do need to moniter them when the knuckle comes off the long part of the bone as chunks tend to come off and they will gulp them down whole.

| Red only gets knuckle bones in the crate or outside - they are too messy and make the carpet nasty.
For stuffed Kongs, I have the King Kong and put canned dog food mixed with peanut butter, and sometimes w/ some kibble and then freeze it. Still a crate-only thing.
A good carpet-friendly chew toy is the Everlasting Treat ball, either with treats or without. Red loves chewing on it and it's virtually indestrucible. |
