| Tall Pet Gate with Cat Door Pet Gates: Easy Step High-Guard Pet Gate at Drs. Foster & Smith I would highly recommend this gate to anyone. It is tall and very sturdy. It comes in black, white, or platinum. You can either put it up with tension in the doorway, or you can bolt it in the doorframe for extra security. It has a swinging door with child-proof latch, and a good-size cat door in the bottom so your cats can still come and go as they please. There are extension sets available if you have a wider than normal doorway.
This gate has been absolutely essential for housetraining and for keeping the puppy in the same room so we can closely supervise him. It also provides the cats with their own "space" so they don't have to worry about the dog sneaking up on them.
Even though our pup is over a year old now, we are still using the gate to confine him to a smaller area of the house to get him used to "free time" out of the crate during short periods of time while we are gone.
I give this product 5 out of 5 stars and would buy another one in a heartbeat if I needed to! It was well worth the money and then some! |

| I have a similar gate made by Kidco, but we do not have the cat door, so just hung it high enough for the cat to go under. I think your door may be cheaper than the one we got!
I did reorder two LONG Kidco gates in the white iron for very wide openings to my living room and kitchen areas. They come with extensions for very wide areas. Cat can fit through the last section next to the wall!
I was using obedience gating in the wide areas, but the dogs learned to push it open and stampede out after a year!!

| Think its brilliant having the cat door inegrated into the gate. We have gates up for Tia which have really helped with training but our kitty isn't too thrilled with them. When we put them up we thought she would jump over the gates but she doesn;t, not sure why. |

So to answer your question, young pups - not a chance. Adults, yes I suppose it's possible if they had a bit of a running start. It's probably more likely that the dog would knock it down rather than try to jump it. But if you bolt it to the door frame, knocking it down wouldn't even be possible. This is a very sturdy gate.
My dog has NEVER challenged the gate. When he was a baby, he used to be able to fit through the cat door, but he has never ever tried jumping it. I think even if he tried, he'd have a helluva time clearing it.

Training is an amazing thing. The gate that Burns is talking about is tall enough there is no possibility that a puppy would jump over it.
I have one three foot gate in my house--the puppies learn on that gate--and the cats don't come into the room that is gated off with it.
But by the time the puppies are four months old they all have come to believe that the two foot baby gate that I have all over the house are HUGE, GIGANTIC, INSURMOUNTABLE OBJECTS!!! They have also come to believe that horrible fates will befall any puppy who so much as stands up on the gates.
For the most part if I'm home the gates (the two footers) just lean on the doorway--after a young puppy knocks them down a couple of times and I've hollered at them for knocking them down the gate assumes a stature in their little puppy brains that is all out of proportion to it's actual size.
By the time they are five months old the gates always have a gap at the end (they are still just leaning up against the door frames) the gap is for the cats. The youngest cat, when just a kitten learned that he couldn't use the tops of the gates to springboard himself over because they often fell down--so he'd make any agility trainer proud--he can do a clean jump over the 3 foot gate as well.
If I'm dog sitting there is a 2 foot gate that goes into the entrance to the room where the litter box is--I raise that enough off the floor that my old cat (who no longer jumps--but geeze, she's 18) can slip under it but it still keeps the dogs out. Fortunately all the dogs I sit for have had similar training so they too think a 2 foot barrier is huge and don't even try to jump it.
One of the side benefits of the gates and how they work in my house is that I can go to an agility trial or to a show and stick a dog into an ex-pen and know that he won't be trying to stand up against it. |

| I have had one of these gates ever since they first came out. They are great. I use it for the laundry room. Keeps the dogs from snacking on the kitty poop. Thats` just disgusting for me, however this has solved all of those issues. |
