Talking Found something Indy and I both like

Flyball! I've tried rally, agility and utility classes but Indy didn't like agility and I'm too directionally challenged for rally, lol. We have a local flyball club that welcomes new dogs to practice right along with the the experienced dogs. Today was our first lesson and we both had a blast. Indy did great with the turns on the platform (no ball loaded yet) and ran through the jumps like a pro. If Indy is good enough after several training sessions, the club may eventually invite us to join.

I can't wait for the next lesson.

Flyball is sooo much fun!!!! I am in training with my aussie right now and am planning to train my doberman when I get him. Championships are next month in St. Louis and I am going with the team even though my dog will not compete. It will be a blast! Is your club NAFA or UFLI sactioned? There aren't any NAFA teams in Oklahoma as far as I know so my team is UFLI as is the other team in Tulsa. Have they taught you about tug games and ball possession games to play at home? They are good foundation things that you can do at home along with restrained recalls. If your team is going to St. Louis next month and you plan to go let me know. I love to see the dobes in flyball

Awesome! I recently started Flygility (a mix of flyball and agility, as we don't do straight flyball in NZ) with the standard schnauzer I train... it's loads of fun!! We are competing for the first time this weekend Hope you get into and enjoy the sport!

I will have to ask if the club is NAFA or UFLI since this is all so new to me. I already play tug with Indy almost every day and he chases tennis balls all the time (of course now he has to learn to do something different with the ball). They did give me some tips on setting up a platform to practice turns and his recalls are already very good. LOL, I don't think we will be ready for a trip with team any time soon but have fun next month! I do know that they are going to MD next weekend.

Sounds like he has a great start! I play a game with jazz in the hallway where I send her for the ball and have her come back and drop it to play with the tug. You might see if he will do it. The sooner you can get him to drop the ball for it the better. That is my major issue with jazz right now. If she would get that we would be about ready for singles. Make sure he brings it all the way though or you end up with a dog that drops the ball early and that is a pain to relearn. Regardless have fun with it!

Thanks for the tips. He really is a ball hog so will need to work on that. BTW, I found out that the club is NAFA.
