Yesterday we started on a "back" command to get Elsie moving laterally away from me to take a hurdle, it was very successful!

Day two if running contacts went well, using Silvia Trkmans method at this.stage, and Elsie's stride pattern seems to work quite well with it. Here's hoping it doesn't fall to pieces!

Are you doing the online course (Sylvia T)

I have a friend that has done a lot of online with her BC. (not the running contact one though) Her dog is doing really really well.

I am following her method but not doing a course, too much $$ for me unfortunately.

Hope it works well for Elsie, RCs are not that big here yet so its a bit of uncharted territory and there aren't that many people to ask for advice yet.

I practice Kyrah at lots of different hieghts. This last class I am in tho the instructor is big about the dog must practice the hieght they jump.

Nice to read everyone is doing great!

I practice different heights depending on what I am working on and the surface of some places. Mine are not bar knockers either. Week before a trial they jump regular height.

I have seen jumps at different heights at trial! Usually is just that someone forgot to set the bar higher - also have seen them forget to move the table up. We sometimes set jumps at different heights in the same course that way they can learn to self adjust.

If bars are set at different heights at a trial that is a huge mistake. My understanding, is the handler at the time is responsible to make sure the heights is correct. That seems kind of unfair to me, but that is what I heard.

We practice what we trial at typically, so 24". For Havoc I could set them at anything and he'd be fine. Flirt still knocks bars usually due to a handler error (imagine that ) so I always practice at 24.

I thought it was the judges responsibility to make sure all is well before she gives the signal for the "GO"

In AKC, it is the handler's responsibility. I'm not sure about the other venues.

I've seen the jump high be screwed up a few times... Either to high, to low, or crooked bar (no lie)...

I've also seen a judge kindly give the dog the jump because multiple dogs dropped the same bar upon inspection the jump was set to high (this trial was using the "safe jumps" with only one jump cup out, so someone set the cup to high, or just forgot about it)...

Jones has ran when a jump had been set to low... I think it was like the second jump I didn't notice until we started running... I informed the judge after... She made me and Jones do the first two jumps again, but all good lol.

I was very sad lots of my training buddies headed out to Kiln, MS for an agility trial. I was sad I couldnt go. Anyway someone posted a video saying how they had gotten a new teeter and it was dropping entirely to quick and catapulting dogs off. It depended on the dog and how they were trained to do the teeter. I am now so glad I didnt enter Kyrah. She already has teeter issues I could see this ending her career. Around :54 is where the teeter is:

Wow! did it stay that way, through the whole trial? Thats` awful. I would pull if that were the case and complain loudly.

I am not sure if they adjusted for today but said it was that way all day yesterday. They said no dogs in the 20" Q'd in standard if I am not mistaken.

I would have pulled Kyrah also. She already has teeter issues.

That's crazy. I would also complain & or pull. Not that we run standard yet. Lol. You'd think the club would fix it or the judge would say something.

Wow! What a horrible teeter, and Dara is not a dog to bail like that, but that teeter really just dropped from under her....

BTW I love her boxers, I don't know if you know her personally. But Tristan is a doll, and when she was at P-Cola Shane (her young 18 mo boxer) was going crazy, she was offering him up free with 100$ LOL (I don't think she was serious) because I said I'd take him in a heartbeat lol.

Running contact training is going very well, today we worked on the dogwalk set up at just above my knee height. Jumped off once or twice when she jumped up too far onto the DW, too bad we don't have.a shorter one to work on. 95% of runs were well into the contact though, she has a good natural stride yay!

Gave full size dogwalk a go today, she raced along it like a pro and ran all the way down through the contact zone every time! Yay! Next step is to reward with toys and see if we can maintain accuracy when she goes harder and faster!

Yesterday was full size dogwalk and toys.... she was successful most of the time with a thrown tug, a thrown ball dropped her success to about 75%... She is ball mad! Will have to figure out how to make the contact lower to up the success with a ball...

Oh and weaves are coming along well, we have 4 poles straight in a row, then about a 1 metre gap , then another 4 poles straight. Just have one more summer training session before we go back to regular agility classes, I think we've done quite well with our summer project of weave and contact training

Our new location (same trainer) is starting to come together. It's big enough for jumps, weave polls and tunnel and the shoot, but not enough for contacts. They are trying to setup a day or two a month the work contacts at another location.

All in all, we had a successful night on the jumps. We were introduced to the hoops last week. Ruger wasn't sure of the last week, but fine with them last night. I just love the feeling I get when he and I have a good night! Keep them coming!

Cheryl

Agility Trail saturday only. It's raining! In Phoenix! And it is not suppose to stop until sunday! Plus Rally both days - someone (Vader) will NOT down on wet grass. He's not even a fan of sitting on wet grass. Actually he won't go potty if it's raining out. Should be FUN! Oh, did I mention it's an outdoor trial.

Pula is running on Saturday only (along with my sheltie) also for agility. Supposed to be raining here also and Pula can barely function if a drop of water hits her. Itis an outdoor trial, with the cars not as close as some other trials, so leaving them in the car is not a real option. At least I am not doing anything other than agility!

Good luck to you and Vader!
