| My personal rant on border collie owners.
They make no effort to ever shut their yapping dogs up. It's like people who have screaming, whiney kids....they never hear it.
They stand at ringside and sling their dogs in circles with complete disregard for whomever or whatever they hit.
They allow their dogs to stare at other dogs when the owners know that it instigates and agitates other dogs who happen to be standing quietly with their owners.
I don't think I've ever seen an owner walk with their bc next to them. It is at the end of the leash jumping at other dogs.
Now for this weekend's reason to detest the bc owners who are complete idiots.
I was standing quietly with Bacchus at ringside watching some of the dogs run when another dobe owner walked up and began chatting. I had Bacchus sandwiched between us. He was standing like a statue looking ahead. Even the other person asked if he was always this calm. It wasn't a minute later that Bacchus let out with a LOUD bark and looked to my right. He didn't move just looked in that direction, agitated.......at the bi-eyed bc laying in a crouch position facing him, at the end of the leash only about 4 feet away staring at Bacchus. Now when this was going on the owner of the bc was stupidly watching what was happening. She didn't make any attempt to pull the dog back, reposition it or disrupt the stare. She did make some remark which I didn't completely catch. It was not an apology. The woman talking with me said "they always blame the doberman".
Later that day as we were standing ready to enter the ring (we were next on the line) I had Bacchus by his collar and his leash hugged up to me. I couldn't have moved any more forward or I would have been in the ring. As I was watching the working dog, I felt Bacchus squirming and trying to move. Without really looking about I patted him on the head and said "in a minute, we'll run in a minute". Yet he continued to squirm. That's when I turned and looked backwards to that idiot ignorant pos woman with the bc watching her bc shoving his nose up Bacc's butt. Now this had been going on as long as Bacc was squirming. I looked this moron straight in the eye when I turned around. She made NO effort to pull her dog away. He was at the end of his leash doing this. That's when I said in a terse voice "he's going to rip your dog's face off and I'm going to let him....STOP IT!!!". At that moment they called us into the ring.
The next day the woman with the dobe came over and said the idiot bc owner let her dog start the staring contest with a golden retriever and he took offense like Bacchus did. The woman with the bc told the golden retriever owner that her dog had never behaved like that before. I'm thinking this is business as usual for her and her dog.
I take Bacchus to the trials for fun. He loves it. I don't take him there to be harassed or provoked.
What the hell ails some people?? There is ignorance in owners of other breeds but for some reason I see ALOT of it in the bc owners. It's almost like they're clueless. |

| I agree....
Most people with BC have no clue what is going on around them. There are a few, but they are in the minority....
Not to derail the BC rant, but I saw this on FB today and wanted to share it with you all, i thought it was very uplifting
This is Zip I posted about her about a year ago... One Dogs love for Agility never stops

| Moving up in the World!!!! Jonesy got his OA this weekend (under Dan Faulkner who he also got his NA under) and 1 leg towards his OAJ! Also for anyone that cares the Judge Jaime Ramirez is an international Judge, and he likes to add some, in his words, "international flare" to his runs, while difficult and technical they were fun. Also had the pleasure of meeting my second ADAMAS dog "Dare" and his wonderful owner Martha, who was a pleasure talking to!
It was an interesting weekend. Jones and me really weren't on the same page at all this weekend. Granted when we placed (Q'd) we got 1st place every time...
Friday:
FAST course he, knocked a bar (he NEVER knocks bars), tried to walk on a double, missed his weave entry, didn't even listen to me... Heck I couldn't even attempt the gamble before the buzzer rang... That is okay first run of the day get it out of your system right?
JWW- He missed his weave entry AGAIN! (I should add I only have 1 piece of equipment it is a set of weaves... He is solid on his weaves...) and from the weaves he had to do a pinwheel, but instead of taking the jump in front he didn't come to me to take a reverse of that (granted I could have been a tad late on the call, but I didn't want to pull him out of the weaves.)
Std- Great run hit his weaves the first time was listening to me finally the end of the day we are flowing as a team!!!
T2B- Someone broke his sit stay! Caught me off guard, but other then that, good run and we set the T2B
Sat:
Std- Great run! The only one I didn't get a video of, granted Jones once again missed his weave entry... I don't know what was with him this weekend. But he did get his title!
JWW: He stopped and sniffed the ground? And freaked when I tried to do a rear cross? Like I'd never done one before...
T2B: Was a tough course. Posting the course but I want to point out it's a little deceiving... 2-3 is way more flat than pictured, also the 14/18 jump was closer to those umps then it looks, and the off course jump past the tire was a lot closer or seemed closer looking at it than on paper....
Jones had no issue with 2-3 but the off course jump past the tire he took, even though I thought I called him soon enough...
Sunday:
First ExcA run! YEAH!!!! I made my goal so I wanted to have fun with this run, I actually didn't care if we Q'd, I wanted to see how fast I could push Jones through the weaves, and see how much distance work I could do with him (we practice distance at home/class, but I've never really done a lot at trials minus the start lines) We didn't Q He got a Refusal/Run off at the teeter, he didn't cut fast enough, and I hung back from the jump to tunnel entry, he took the wrong entrance, but I think we cut off at least a second from his weave time. Me running faster, and who knows if the clapping helped lol. Anyways NQ but I had fun! And I wish I got it on video but the lady videoing cut it off too soon....
Anyways they put the leashes in a bin kinda high up held up by a PVC stand... (kinda looks like a MINI!!! Table...) Well Jones and his spazness after running the course went to grab his leash, and jumped into the bin knocking it over, falling into the ring gate, me trying to catch him, I fell over trying to do so... When I get up and at least 10 people came over to me asking if I was okay where was Jones? Standing above me leash in mouth wiggling his little butt like "What you doing down there?" He's a goober I swear... I am worried about him, I guess he must have jumped out before the stand/bin hit the ring gate...
JWW 1st Open Leg:
Great run, but again didn't like when I did a rear cross he spun and totally ignored that I told him to take the jump... Guess I need to work rear crosses some more. since it happened twice....
Only 1 video this time Just because it has a great shot of Jonesy's weaves! Look at him go! This is the last run of the trial his first OAJ leg
And because I don't go more then 2 ft without my camera it seems some more photo's
Sorry for the long winded post...
Next weekend (This Friday we will be in Pensacola!) Woot! Back to back trials!

| Thanks VZ & Viv!
The trial I will be going to this next weekend will be our official first year in AKC. (and mark our 5th AKC trial)
We will have been doing ASCA for 2 years (as of January). (7 ASCA trials)
And started learning the ropes of Agility a little over two years ago back in October.
I've learned a lot along the way, and still have a lot to learn. I can't thank everyone here enough for the pointers and tips, and of course my agility mentor/best friend..... I only started thinking I just wanted to do something fun with Jones, and nothing serious. Now I am really starting to chase the dream of getting a MACH.... I love every run we take. Every time I step onto the field I treat it like it is my last. I've said it before and it couldn't be any more true. He is the "bestest" most awesome dog ever!
Jones is my first dog, he is the dog that will forever set the bar for other dogs to try to beat. I couldn't ask for a better first dog, first dobe, first agility partner, first to steal the spot of heart dog.

| Great job Team Jonesy!!! Hey you've met more ADAMAS dogs than I have Dare is Flirt's half-brother!
We had a great class with Kathie Leggett last night. Basic jumping drills since most teams had gone to a 3 day trial. And the crowd went WILD…ok maybe not wild but I heard audible gasps and WOW at class as Flirt hit her weaves full Doberman speed!!! So far we’ve only had full speed at home or practice by ourselves, and I am thrilled! She collected, got the entrance and flew! . AND I learned a new move! Blind cross on the flat (I think that’s what it is called!). Sweet!
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY I learned how to do a blind cross at jump 3! Dog on my left, lead out just past 2, pick up dog with right arm, send over jump with right arm, turn body MOVE and voila my dog basically goes around me ! How cool is that!!!! I also managed to get Havoc into the weaves doing a rear cross on the flat after the tunnel. I couldn’t get Flirt’s body turned around in time (speed plus size means I need to get my commands out SOONER!) But Havee flew right into the weaves!
My drawing isn’t exact either. The jump near the weaves wasn’t quite that close in real life.

| Awesome job Jonsey! With the weave entry try pushing the pole and keep your shoulder toward the weaves to support. Depending on which side you enter - if you push the imaginary pole push out a little further - That way they can get the turn - works for V.
I tell V to hurry or go go go when he's weaving - it speeds him up for some reason. Go with what works!
We are also working on blind crosses - they scare me - V at full speed behind me out of sight. . . could be a disater, lol. So far he has caught on to them really quickly.

| Yea for blind crosses. "HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY I learned how to do a blind cross at jump 3!"
Glad to hear it. I started blind crosses (at jumps, on the flats after tunnels or in between jumps)with Pula about 2ish months ago, and I am now much more comfortable with them. In the beginning it was a little scary not knowing where she was going to be and not wanting to be barreled over or have either of us get hurt. Now that I am used to them I find lots of places to use them to speed us along in the practice courses.
We have also introduced Ketschkers and other fun ways to get ahead and stay ahead of her and she is really taking things well and responding.
I am taking Pula to a show-n-go in about 1.5 weeks to see how she does and if I like what I see, I may enter her in a trial - just a single day. I am trying to see if I can get someone to come with me to take some video, and to hang out with the other dog while I am running one. We train in multiple places, but nothing replaces a trial in energy.
The trial locations in December are at a covered facility (a horse arena) so it has less distractions (squirrels, etc) that some of the other locations, it is protected from rain, and it is a nice overall environment to start her in the ring. I have taken her there before just to visit and see what it was like. In any event, because my roommate will be on vacation, Pula will be coming to any trials with me, whether she runs or not, which will be good for her.
Would like to see some videos of your blind crosses! |

| Can someone post a video of a dog doing double stride vs single stride through the weave poles? Does it matter which they do? I can't really tell the difference.
I just entered Avril in her first trial. I was just going to do standard and jumpers Saturday and Sunday. But it's one of our local dobe clubs so I'm considering entering her Friday as well just to support the club. |

The other common form is the hopping that smaller dogs do typically - both feet together. I saw single stride front-end with rear-end hopping on a doberman at the Mt Hood Dobie trial just over a week ago. with the single stride, you can then have the rear legs under the body like Linda Z's (Xena, Dillon and Rio) dogs do or you can have the legs stretched out behind that most BCs do.

| Sometimes my dogs do a combo. Flirt usually single strides becuase of her size. Sometimes the Vizslas will do a combo of the two. Single striding the front but jumping the rear...just to make it more confusing. I have found the smaller my dog, the more hopping they do. Just a small 3 dog sample size comparison

BTW Lana is looking really good... grew 1/2" since the Mt Hood trial 10 days ago - yikes! I had to take her on Saturday to show Paula how she is doing - Mike is always keen to see how Tex's baby is doing too! Fingers crossed for a repeat!

| Vader single strides. He's getting fast too Love it.
I see if I have a video of him weaving. . .
Old video - he's much faster now. . . You can really see his front feet in it though. If we weave toight in handling class I'll see if I can get some videos & wear matching clothes The Agility Journal

(refer to JWW video above).... I think it works for him, it's almost like he is pulling with his front, but just picking his butt up not really trying to move it.

| | denormalized | Yeah, like someone already said, it doesn't matter which way they choose to do the weaves, as long as they are reliable and fast, who cares?
My puppy's uncle is renowned for the number of poles he breaks in the weaves - he just pushes his way thru at a breakneck (or breakpole) speed. Don't know how that gets scored if he breaks one - I know NADAC would NQ him.
