Just saw this interesting article in the NZKC gazette, does anyone know if things are similar in the USA? I wonder what it's like in other sports?

Female dogs are more dominant in New Zealand agility at the top levels than they were five years ago. It is more than coincidence that figures seem to bear out the points that female dogs are more adaptable and trainable at the highest levels in a sport that is technical and requiring of physical, mental and speed skills.
It is quite widely believed that female dogs are likely to be less distracted and are more physically flexible than their male counterpart.
In 2006 there were 106 champions in NZ agility with 63 percent of them female. his year at the end of April, the number of champions had risen to 163 with 70.5 percent female. Of the last 30 titled champions, 23 (77%) were female.
It is estimated that on an overall basis there are as many male dogs competing in agility as female- but maybe the majority of the top handlers prefer female dogs: and for good reason.
Reasons which escape Massey University small animal behaviourist specialist, Rachael Stratton who says she has no knowledge of any research done on this subject and could not offer any explanation why our female dogs excel in agility over males.
Ron Frater of the NZ agility board has produced all of the information from which the percentages have been calculated.
Of the 163 champs, 96 of them are pure bred among the following breeds of which is dominated by Border Collies: Golden retriever, Miniature Poodle, Hungarian Vizsla, Australian Kelpie, German Shepherd, Standard Poodle, Shetland Sheepdog, Boxer, Belgian Shepherd, Miniature Schnauzer, Australian Cattle Dog, English Springer Spaniel, Dalmatian, Australian Shepherd, Fox Terrier, Labrador, Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Lol poor dude, all those titles for nothing!! :(
Dobermans are not at all common in agility in NZ, I know of 2 competing at the moment, a red girl on my Island and a boy on the other Island... there was a black girl at my club, but they never came back after the earthquake grrr.

I think there are about the same number of boys and girls (dogs) at my club, the girls do seem to do better... there are definitely more girl handlers than boys though lol.
