Working pup from Von Luka

Thought I’d share some pictures with the working enthusiasts. These are of Remington von Luka, who is my wife’s puppy. Remy is from Erynn's (workingk9's) recent litter. I get share him just a little because I get to help with his protection training.

My wife and I have spent the last week or so bonding with him and getting a feel for his overall demeanor and temperament. I’ve got to admit that I really like this pup.

Even though he’s just a baby, I've gotten started doing my part by confidence building and looking for ways to gently expose him to all sorts of things and situations.

In every situation we plan for baby steps and giving him lots of time to investigate and get comfortable with new stuff, but so far, each time he’s been so confident that he needs little (if any) time to check out a new situation before deciding he’s OK with it.

Here are some of the things he’s been up to lately-

Here he is walking up a ramp in the harbor. You can see through the metal grating down to the water below. Wife carried him down the ramp, but he walked up on his own.

This plank is wobbly and clatters when you walk on it. He was running back and forth across without a care in the world.

Some of these rocks are bigger than he is. He scampered over them like a mountain goat!

I wasn’t going to bring out a clatter stick this early, but he’s so eager and having so much fun playing tug that I figured what the heck, we’ll try a little bit. He shows absolutely zero indicators of stress. Doesn’t faze him a bit.

Scaffolding here is 7’ 9” high. You can tell from his body language that when the pic was taken he wasn’t too sure about being up there. Moments later he decided it was OK and started goofing off, which freaked out his mommy, so I had to take him down.

The dragon in this pic was huge, loud and new to him. It certainly caught his interest, but didn’t concern him too much. We watched for a while and moved on.

Did I mention how much I like this little guy?

You are doing great with your puppy
It's impressive he was not scared to walk on a ramp and a plank. Fearless boy!

Congrats on your new boy! I think you're going to have your hands full.
I hope all the nerd owners come here and keep us up to date regularly. (keeping us all up to date WAS a condition of puppy ownership right Erin? right?)

Fabulous boy!!!! My new pup is just as confident and like you I couldn't be happier about it! I will have to really keep your breeder in mind when I look for my next one... Several years and a neuter surgery away but your pup has me thinking. Sshh don't tell my Dh I am plotting already!

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Shepherds, but this little guy has impressed me! (in all reality itís probably just a soft spot for a particular GSD and not shepherds in general)

Thatís awesome!

13 years ago no one I spoke to that actually worked dogs recommend a Dobermann for protection work or sports. That included police, SchH, and PP trainers. Among the folks I talked to, even the ones who had Dobes said they were switching breeds. The most anyone would tell me was that if I was willing to go through a trusted broker and import *maybe* Iíd get a workable dog.

Itís different now and with folks like your breeder and Erynn producing pups like these, there is hope!

Lotus is lots of fun and also very brave. She is a champion car rider We took her to the Fisherman's Wharf in SF and she got to see the sea lions. She was very curious. Jaxx the cat and her are getting along quite well. I think they are starting to play with each other. It is hard to tell, I am not great at reading cat body language. Last night Lotus had zoomies and kept sprinting in front of Jaxx while Jaxx swatted at her. Lotus thought it was great fun.

Hey adahn: the pictures of your pup are great but the scenery in the background make me homesick for AK! I was raised in Anchorage and I swear I might give my right ear to see a chickadee or some fireweed!

Thank you for the great shots of a great pup! I also just got one of those euro pups and what a great temperament she has but also a handful. My cats and other dog get no peace. So bold and always aware of her surroundings. Having a ball here, with puppy time.

Agreed, with pictures.

Remy, you are one handsome confident little pup! I especially loved the walk over the grated ramp! Thanks for sharing the pics - will he be "one to watch" in the future?

We hope so, but with out a club it will be hard to get helpers who know what they are doing for the protection work. He is a smart boy so we will see.
